This is just purely for fun exercise to trade all our young players for the best team possible of players over 30 who used to be a several time all star at some point in their careers.  Something to do on a slow Saturday.

This team would have the wow factor where if you turned back the clock 5 years or so they could be one of the best teams ever.  To make things a bit easier for trade purposes lets say we can use Rondo's full salary this year of 9 Mil even though he is a base compensation player and also use the recently signed Robinson and Daniels (maybe Scal too for S&T purposes).  We can also use our recent draft picks Bradley and Harangody.

For "old school" players we now have;

Sheed or we can still trade his contract to help get other old players.
Jermaine O'Neal
KG
Paul
Ray

Yougins to trade;

Rondo
Perk
Baby
Daniels
Robinson
Bradley
Harangody
maybe scal

First maybe the easy part getting guys who could be had for possibly the minimum.  Shaq (doesn't look like at this point anyone is going to offer much more than the minimum.) Same with Tmac, Iverson, Marbury, and Stackhouse.

With our biggest trading chip Rondo I would go after Nash and Grant Hill.  Rondo's value right now because of his age and upside has more value than possibly combined both Nash and Hill as they are over 35.   To make the numbers work throw in Scal in a S&T package with Rondo for Nash and Hill.

Next I'm going after Marcus Camby partly because I'm a UMASS Alum and he still a very good weakside defender and rebounder.  BBD and Nate should do.

What's left to trade.  Let's see Perk, Bradley, Daniels, oh yeah we have Erden, I'll throw him in there, Harangody, here is where I would use Sheed's contract, and a future first maybe 2 picks for Tim Duncan.

After all this mess we now have

TD/Shaq/Camby
KG/Jermaine/Camby
Paul/Hill
Ray/Tmac/Stackhouse
Nash/Iverson/Marbury

Marbury can be the token 13th man suit guy on the bench.    Now that's an old school team.

Again I'm not saying any of these teams would actually go for this.  This is just purely for fun bending the cap rules slightly with trading Rondo ect to get the best old school team here.

 Can you guys do better?

Old school or not, this team will be the hands down favorite for winning the championship. Bigs to hold down the paint who can also score, also a playmaking PG with a deadly shooter in Ray. Wow.

Assuming we have a time machine and we can retrieve these guys from a few years back and force them to honor the contracts their futures selves signed.

Rondo plays very old school on both ends.  Old school doesn't mean old to me, it means hustling doing the dirty work.

Hmm...  if Duncan is available for expiring contracts and draft picks, let's get it done.

You forgot Chauncey Billups  ;)

Otherwise that team is ridiculous; if the NBA didn't have salary caps you might add Kobe and Jason Kidd to that roster, as well.

Yeah, I've wondered if getting the "All-KG's friends" lineup would be possible:

Rasheed Wallace
Joe Smith
KG
Tyronne Lue
Chauncey Billups
