I was walking around Faneuil Hall with my kids this afternoon and my son spotted a guy who looked like Stan Van Gundy (or Ron Jeremy).  Then we heard him talk and we knew it was SVG.  We talked to him for a few minutes and he was a very friendly, personable guy.  He said that he was in Boston for his daughter who is going to attend BU.  He asked where we were from and mentioned that he used to live in Lowell and is very familiar with the New England area.  He is also going to see the Sox while he's in town.  My son (11 yrs old) asked him to "tell Dwight that I said Hello" and he said he would and asked for my son's name.  I'm sure he won't but my son got a kick out of it.
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

Sounds like a nice guy. Lemme be the first to say congrats. I always enjoy his long winded and horse tirades on the sidline. He truly is a master of panic.

Good one.  You never see Doc panicking.  I'm glad to hear he's a nice guy...too bad he's such a mediocre coach.

As a guy who seems like a lunatic on the bench, he was a really nice guy in person.  He suprised me...(1) he was very talkative and laughed a lot, and (2) he's shorter and thinner than I expected.
