I don't know if theres been a poll on this before, but I think now that Marquis is resigned we should revisit the topic.

Alright, so when sheed first announce his retirement I was actually really happy about it. I thought it would free up some money, and create a good trading chip for the offseason so we could add another big. But the more I think about it, the more i believe we really need sheed back with the celtics next season.

For one, Perk is out until January, and we're going to need as many bodies as it will take to fill that void. Garnett isn't getting any younger and he could use the rest.

Also, it doesn't appear anyone is going to bite on his contract, and i don't see anyone out in the trade market more valuable then sheed.

Also, the bench is depleted when it comes to three point shooters. Once you get passed nate robinson, no one can hit from deep. Bradley won't get many minutes, Daniels is a weak shooter, and i don't think Michael Finley will be back. So i think sheed would help in that department.

However, Danny Ainge and Doc insist that sheed is retiring. So I don't know if it's a possibility. But, pierce has been quoted saying he's not sure if wallace will go through with it.

The question is, do you want sheed back?

No.

It should be clear to anyone who watched last season that Sheed is washed up.

He didn't look washed up in the playoffs.

More valuable as a trade asset than a player

I don't think I can endure another year of his half-assed effort without doing something to put myself on the front page of the Globe.

Well beantown, that makes a lot of sense and I voted yes.  In any case, it looks as if Ainge is going to wait.  The ideal scenario is for Sheed to give it a shot for a few months and help "bridge the gap" until Perk gets back, THEN retire in a S&T during the season when we have a better idea of what we really need and some bargains pop up.

Well, I'm going to say undecided.  We can sit here and say that he's more valuable as a trade asset, but do we really know that?  If teams were chomping at the bit to get him, he'd be gone already.

Danny's made some sort of comment to the effect that teams don't know yet if they're going to need to dump salary.  I'm not sure I buy that.  If you're under the cap, don't spend more.  If you're over the cap, you probably have a pretty good idea how much you're going to end up spending.

While I'm not proposing this, if Wallace does somehow end up back, we could potentially fill our last wing spot with BBD.  With KG, JO, and Wallace, we could probably get by with a minimum big until Perk gets back.  Plus, while I like BBD, is he going to command too much next summer for a guy who we don't envision being a starter on a title team?

If his contract can be moved for a more impactful player, I am all for trading him and watching him retire.

However if nothing becomes available, I'd like to see him back.

So... yes and/or no.  ;D

I want Sheed to FIX his Back first!

If Sheeds Back is Back then I want him Back

But

If his Back isn't Back then I dont want Sheed Back

And

If Sheed is Back he'll go Back to jacking up 3's from far Back

However

I only want Sheed Back if he signs a contract agreeing to take his Back-side, Back down on the block

My knee jerk reaction was no, I agree with Who that he is much more valuable as trade chip.  However Surferdad brings up an interesting point.  If Sheed came back and played hard for the first half, bridging the gap of Perk's rehab, then there might be a best of both worlds.  An instantly expiring contract at the trade deadline would be just the ticket for desperate franchises under water and cratering.  Problem is that Sheed never got in shape last year and is retiring because he doesn't want to do it anymore (and I'm sure that is especially true of conditioning and practice, he'd probably be good with strolling from three-point line to three-point line jacking up three's).
