I said it in another post at one point that I wouldn't mind seeing Joey Graham in green.  I think he is a strong athletic defender that would be good for Pierce off the bench.

I also wouldn't mind the Celtics sitting down with Sean Williams to see where he is at and maybe have the "brain doctor" talk to him for a little while.

Other than that Joe Alexander intrigues me and so does Ike Diogu as long as he is somewhat healed and signs a deal similar to Powes for Clevelend where we could evaluate him this year and then decide whether to keep him next year.  Microfracture is a big deal so he might not be ready yet.

Thanks for that list. I'll have to keep revisiting it as I change my mind. Right now, I'd rank the 4/5 as such:
(assuming they pass physicals)

Brad Miller
Shaq
Amundson
nesterovic
Boone
Diogu
Kurt Thomas
Kwame Brown

Of course, they want different salaries; whether we should go after a big man with Sheed's deal or a wing is up for debate, and miller/shaq would definitely need sheed's deal in a s&t to pay them what they are expecting.

I would be really happy with Amundson, Rasho, Boone, or Diogu for the minimum. Settle for Kurt or Kwame

For wingmen, I think Ainge should be pushing hard for a Josh Howard S+T. He'd be a great versatile fit assuming healthy, even with some dropoff in recent years. we'd have to include something to convince washington to deal with us...i'd prefer straight cash, then a second round pick, but would really try to avoid a first rounder unless they want to get rid of mcgee or blatche in the deal. So, again assuming health and not considering method (vet min or sheed trade) i'd go:
Probably needs s+t
josh howard
barnes (possibly min.? s+t to include gortat/bass, if magic are leary to go so far into tax due to the redick thing?)
Richard Jefferson
mcgrady (possibly vet min?)
---
Vet Min:
rasual butler
bobby simmons
roger mason
carney
Hughes
Joey Graham
Damien Wilkins
Steven Graham
Tucker
von wafer
Hayes

I don't really know what we're gonna do about our big man, but in terms of the s&t i think barnes and bass sounds good. whenever the magic put bass in the game against us he played really hard and almost immediately scored.

But i like the idea of josh howard. i kinda want to pick up two players with the s&t though.

  • Another undersized Celtic...
I think Josh Howard is worth the gamble. How often can you get a discount former All-Star (only 3 years removed) who is still young, even if he's damaged goods? It's not like he won't come back strong...

If that doesn't happen I see us really scraping the bottom with guys who are athletic who can just stay in front of people on D, like Damien Wilkins. He's certainly not great, but at this point in his career, he has to settle into a role, and "defensive stopper" has a way of resurrecting people's careers, especially if they can hit an outside shot (see Bruce Bowen, Raja Bell, Ruben Patterson, etc...)

I like the ideas of Von Wafer, Sean Williams, Stackhouse, Kurt Thomas, Joey Graham, James Jones and even Pops Mensu.

Sean Williams, Pops Mensu and Von Wafer I think would take just about any contract thrown at them just to get back in the NBA and try to make a name for themselves... or have people remember there names.

Another name could be Rashad McCants... I heard he's a punk and probably a negative influence... how else does a decent shooter stay out of the NBA.

For the vet min:

Center
1)Shaq
2)Kwame
3)Brad Miller
4)Battie
5)Elson

PF
1)Etan Thomas
2)Amundson
3)Pops Mensah-Bonsu
4)Josh Boone
5)Kurt Thomas

SF

1)Damien Wilkins
2)Tim Thomas
3)Adam Morrison

SG

1)TMac
2)Stackhouse
3)Mason

With Bradley on board, the Celtics don't need a short SG (Crittenton would be interesting, but I think he's more of a PG)

I'm not sure if all these players are willing to play for the vet min, but I wouldn't pay them more than that. For that salary, all would be fine, Shaq or TMac would be great.

Don't doubt Danny, he will get a big man and a long wing, and hopefully he can get a trade exception to use at the trade deadline.

So I just made a list of FA's that are still available.

Yahoo's free agent tracker is a more complete list that gives you age and last year's salary.
