I would like this trade a lot more if I knew for sure that one of the 33 year old Jeff Foster's back wasn't going to be a long term problem, I think it will, and if it was for Brandon Rush instead of Dahntay Jones.

I think if Danny is patient he will end up with more for Sheed's contract.

The aspect of the deal that is appealing is really Jeff Foster.  However, given that we already have 3 good bigs and that we'll likely get a 4th good one back by the All Star break, this doesn't really do it for me.

Dahntay Jones would be a nice 4th wing; however, we can get that at the minimum on the FA market.

Sheed's contract needs to produce a quality 3rd wing.

This deal doesn't do that.

Would love Dahnty on this team. Fills TAs role right away. And add someone like Barnes or Bobby Simmons who can knock down a corner three. We would have ourselves a nice bench. I perfer Barnes because him and jones would fit well in our Celtics ways.

BOS trades Rasheed Wallace, Tony Gaffney, Oliver Lafayette, 2nd rounder

IND trades Jeff Foster and Dahntay Jones

-------------

Why IND: Indiana has a glut of wings (Rush, Granger, Stephenson, Paul George, Dunleavy). They get out of the remaining 3yrs/~$7M of Jones' contract. Buying out Rasheed saves them money over Foster's contract (makes about the same as Wallace). Get and future 2nd for their trouble.

Why BOS: Foster has played with JO before and is a veteran banger to help develop Semih Erden. More importantly D. Jones duplicates 95% of what we lost in Tony Allen. Jones is a very good wing defender, maybe 85-90% of what Allen was, but a better shooter than Allen.

You had me up until there.... Lol.

But seriously, I could live with that. I would prefer a quality wing who can give both Ray and Paul rest, but who know what teams will offer Danny.

Great minds and all that, Gainesville, I was killing 15 minutes on the ESPN trade machine yesterday, and came up with the exact same scenario, under a few assumptions -

1) Wallace's contract isn't as attractive as any of the half dozen straight salary dumps currently available. Too many teams either have huge trade exceptions or cap room.

2) Meaning the front office likely has to target veterans with either unwieldy contracts, MLE signings that are a year or two longer than is prudent and the ilk, or injury concerns - i.e., players that aren't going to be attractive to the younger Knicks and Nets or the now re-tooling Cavaliers and Raptors.

3) Ainge will be looking to bring in either a rotation caliber PF/C or a wing defender - or both.

I would be more interested in using Sheed's contract to acquire Songaila and Julian Wright.

New Orleans was another team I took a hard look at. Although I decided upon James Posey and the draft rights to Quincy Pondexter. I like either package less than Foster and Jones.

Is Foster in good health these days?

I'd agree with that L17...

And of course Foster's in good health...  ;D didn't you see him out there with the 2009 Celticsblog Draft Orlando Magics?!? (how did we not win the east  :o)

Right... and right-back-atcha WW.

I think you're right about the attractiveness (or lack thereof) of Wallace's retiring contract. And I think some folks are deluding themselves if they think we can get anyone better than and 8th or 9th guy from Wallace's deal.

Would not be surprised if we started the season with a still "non-retired" Sheed on our roster.

No need to rush into anything. Let the free agency period roll on. That contract will definitely attract interest the closer we get to the trade deadline.
