Garnett doesn't strike me as the type who'll enjoy his basketball once he is no longer a star player.
True.  He talks way too much trash.

Bird talked the most trash and he's still in it. MJ big trash talker still in it.  I could see him as assistant coach.  The team would be fired up that's for sure.

Well we are talking about KG as a basketball player.  Career in the NBA as a coach or otherwise is a different story, though I don't really see him as a coach at all.  Maybe I'm wrong.

I expect KG to be an above average power forward who might be limited to 25 mpg.  If his skill is at that level, what is he worth?

About $8 million ... but only to a team who is playing for a title.

Out of the big 3, KG seems to me the least likely who would do a bench role...even more so than Pierce.

I just can't see him coming off the bench...like at all.

I bet the Celtics are hoping he retires in 2012, or if he signs, he'll sign for practically nothing.  Cause I agree with everyone else who thinks that 2012 seems to be the year we're unloading for a big free agent.

He has a player option for that season after KG is up. If Orlando doesn’t get it done this year or next he could easily jump ship for greener pastures...

No need to laugh at peoples ideas, especially when they completely make sense.

I don't agree with that....at all.

The one thing KG has proven in his entire NBA career is putting the team above himself. Once his contract expires, if the Celtics have a better option at PF and want KG back, I truly believe he will take a lesser role.

I would be absolutely shocked if he chose to go chase a title for the vet minimum playing 8-12 minutes. I also wouldn't expect him to chase money and PT on a lottery team. His jumper will never leave him and his one-on-one defense is still great, so he will deservedly get playing time in 3-4 seasons.

I'd expect him to stay in Boston for another year or two after his current contract for somewhere in the $6-8 million range. Finish his career with Pierce (and maybe Ray still comes back again, a la Reggie Miller or Finley still knocking down shots at nearly 40), in GREEN.

I can see Dwight Howard leaving Orlando. Their cap situation is in a bad way and his team is going to have a hard time getting past Miami over the next couple of years.

I doubt the Celtics can make an attractive enough offer though.

  • Another undersized Celtic...
Dwight is a force, but I think if he were to go to the wrong team, his weaknesses would be exploited rather quickly. If he went to a team that didn't have the shooting around him that Orlando has, it would allow defenses to collapse on him and clog up the lane. He only goes to his right, and can't shoot outside of 12 feet, so he'd become pretty mortal, IMO. He'd have to go to a pick n roll team like the Jazz if he didn't have shooters. Probably wouldn't be so great on the C's with the type of players who'd remain here when Howard becomes a FA.

If KG is still healthy by then, he can be good rotation player for small sum. You want a competitor and leader like him in the team as an excellent example of work etic for younger players, a great teammate and positive locker room presence. Plus, he's always will be able to hit that mid range jumper of his.

except Dwight absolutely hates us. we gave him endless [crap] during the ORL series. He dunked and then egged the crowd on. He was really p---ed off at us.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.
