Will Charlotte cut Dampier?  Is he a viable pickup?

I think he'll be cut, but my guess is Denver is already calling his agent with a full MLE offer.  They have been trying really hard to get all of the top free agent big men, and have missed out, but Dampier may be their man.

exactly. damp isn't going to be playing in boston next year for the vet min...

as long as he doesn't go to miami, I'm happy.

Well, Dallas has a good two headed C with Haywood and Chandler.

Yea I love this for them.  Chandler is iffy when he's the lone C, but combined with Haywood both getting decent minutes they could really excel.

If there ever was a player (not named Mark Blount) that I think would go after every penny he could get over winning a championship, Dampier is that guy.  I would be shocked if he goes to Miami (and I would also be absolutely sure they are paying them under the table).

Excellent acquisition by the Mavericks + nice salary dump for the Bobcats.

Dallas is still not a legitimate contender though. They are still short a go-to scorer and they just used up arguably their best trade asset. It doesn't look good for Dirk.

So, Charlotte goes back to platooning Diop and Mohammed at center?

Bobcats adrift. At least the proposed three-way trade that Jordan backed out of would have brought in a starting point guard to replace Felton. Unless the intention is to tie Brown's hands into playing Augustin 40 minutes a game?

On talent, the starting frontcourt should probably be Tyrus Thomas, Gerald Wallace and Boris Diaw.

But Charlotte has the wrong coach and the wrong personal to be taking a step back into the end of the lottery again.

EDIT - Also Chandler's contract expires at the end of the season and he's coming off another injury-plagued finish, what's the downside to holding him until the trade deadline? His value is only going to improve whether or not he gets off to a strong start.

Well, it seems they will now target Harrington with their last chip, the MLE.

haha. Absolutely, Chris. These guys that make the term "contract year" famous probably aren't into ringchasing.

Al Harrington is a waste of minutes. He would be a terrible signing for Dallas.

Exactly what they do not need. A perimeter orientated big man who can't play defense and doesn't rebound.

This reminds me of the summer the Mavs added Antoine, Jamison, and somoeone else...

How are they gonna find frontcourt minutes/shots for Caron Butler, Dirk Nowitzki, Shawn Marion, Brandon Haywood, Tyson Chandler AND add Al Harrington.....

I take that back. There is something like $17 million owed to Najera + Carroll over the next 2/3 years. That is ridiculous.

This is an awful trade for Charlotte.

EXACTLY!!  The deal they had with Toronto made more sense because they would have received Calderon, allowing Augustin to backup the PG spot (as he is not a starting PG, IMO).  There are so many stupid GM's in the NBA it's not even funny.

I would argue it is funny.

$13 million (difference between Jose + the money owed to Carroll/Najera) over three years for a player of Calderon's quality ...

They are never going to be able to sign a player of Calderon's caliber for that money. The Raptors deal was far superior to what Dallas offered.
