BARNES SUCKS

He is certainly overrated.  He was certainly not that good against the Celtics in the playoffs.

By that standard, the only players Ainge should try and sign are Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol.

Let's be serious.  Barnes is AT LEAST as good as TA.

Mike

No, he wasn't.

TA played good defense against the likes of Bryant and Wade.

Barnes allowed Pierce to go off.  (where as Lebron and Artest really slowed him down)
Barnes has on attribute that'd help the C's, he's an excellent rebounder.

Other than that, yuck.

Not to be a jerk but, I'm not sure where this misnomer got started but, Matt Barnes isn't and never was a even a good rebounder.

2010 Playoff Stats

Paul Pierce - 6 rebounds in nearly 39 minutes a game.
Matt Barnes - Almost 5 rebounds in just over 23 minutes a game.

Mike

And that means what exactly?  Barnes averaged almost 5 rbs and he's excellent rebounder.  He's not even a good rebounder.

Unless excellent doesn't mean excellent anymore.  I know we label players Kings w/o actually doing anything but, words do still have some meaning.
Relative to his position, as a small forward, Matt Barnes is an excellent rebounder.

So Pierce and Rondo must be uber excellent rebounders for their positions?

Yes, Matt Barnes is not as good a defender as LeBron or Artest or even TA.  Though since he played less than 24 minutes a game in the Eastern conference finals, you can't exactly blame him for all of Pierce's success.

Playoff stats

Tony Allen - 16.3 minutes, 48% shooting, 0% from three, 5.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, .7 assists, 1 steal, 1 turnover.

Matt Barnes - 23.3 minutes, 40% shooting, 37% from three, 6.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, .7 steals, .7 turnovers.

So, Barnes is a MUCH better shooter, MUCH better rebounder and MUCH less likely to commit a turnover than Tony.

I seem to recall another thread where you said replacing TA would be easy, so there was no need to give him that 3rd year.  Well, what replacement for TA would be better than Barnes?

Mike

Sorry, but you're stats indicate that TA is the MUCH better shooter...and he is MUCH better at steals...YOUR stats.

If you're a small forward with a considerably better rebounds-per-minute rate than Paul Pierce, you're an excellent rebounder for a small forward.

Seriously, did Matt Barnes boink your girlfriend or something?  He's not an all-star but if TA is gonna get 3 million a year for 3 years, there aren't a lot of better options out there for Boston.

Mike

Whatever bro he's an excellent rebounder.  Continue with the Barnes discussion.

Paul Pierce is a slightly below average rebounder at this point in his career. He was a very good to excellent rebounder for most of his career.

Rajon Rondo is an excellent rebounder. He dropped off a bit during the regular season last year but otherwise (playoffs + previous regular seasons) he has been excellent.

Barnes rebounds good for a SF.  Unfortunately, offensively he is less then average.  Defensively, he is to slow.

As a PF, he is an above average shooter.  He is at best, and average rebounder.  But he is to small and weak of a defender.

Matt Barnes wants to be a starter and wants to be paid starter money.  He really shouldn't be in the discussion at this point.  Maybe later when no team has cap space or the MLE left, but even then he'll probably prefer a place he can start.

Looks like hes considering the Celts. I would not mind seeing them sign him at this point.

"Matt Barnes, who started 56 games at small forward for the Magic last season, apparently has heavy interest from two of Orlando’s main East rivals: the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics.

Those with knowledge of the situation say Barnes is strongly considering the Heat or the Celtics, among several other teams.

The Barnes’ camp still contends that the Magic have not offered him a contract and have moved on after signing free agent guard-forward Quentin Richardson.

The defensive-minded Celtics might make more sense. Boston is looking for back-up help behind small forward Paul Pierce and at power forward behind Kevin Garnett after the retirement of Rasheed Wallace.

The Heat are crowded at the small-foward and power-forward spots.

LeBron James will start at small forward, with Mike Miller coming off the bench. Chris Bosh will be the power forward, backed by Udonis Haslem."
