GET BARNES!!!!

I'd certainly think Miller would be better than Barnes, but can anyone explain why his scoring has declined so much while playing on awful teams the last two seasons?  His shooting percentage didn't drop, but he's only averaged around 10 points a game for the Twolves and Wiz.

There was an article on Yahoo! Sports (top 25 FAs of 2010 or something like that) which called him "the most unheralded headcase in the league". They basically claimed he started seeing himself as the next Magic Johnson and killed his team by forcing bad passes and passing up shots in crunch time.

In his defense, he missed time in a critical junction with the Wizards last season, and came back after they have become a mess already. Playing on a team with notable ball hogs such as Blatche and Foye didn't help the number of his shots either.

Same could be said for Minnesota last season (Al Jefferson), though it seems to me that he was forced to play a lot of PG there, and was constantly yanked between the bench and the starting lineup.

I like it. he's like a poor mans artest. He has less strength but can easily play that in your face up in your jersey defender off the bench. In the Cetlic's team defense system he would be amazing. i would love it.

We really need to pick up Matt Barnes!!! I have been hoping we sign him for 3 years now, He is a hard nose player that will fit in great with us, no more "gimmick" nate robinson or "fossil" mike finleys, He will be solid off the bench and place great defense... it will be absolutely stupid if we dont get this guy!!!

Totally agree. If we can get Barnes, I'd be psyched. I think he'd be an upgrade over Tony, at the minimum. He's got a great game and has the ability to get under the skin of the opposing team. Like the op said - "GET BARNES!!"

He doesn't do any one thing well and doesn't have the mental toughness needed for the C's. I'd obviously welcome him with open arms as I think KG's toughness is contagious, but I'd prefer Mike Miller, Al Harrington, etc...

He is an average bench guy.  IMO, his defensive "prowess" is overstated and it seems like every time someone mentioned it on this board ... he got abused. 

For the minimum, I'm OK with him.

Harrington just got 5yrs 34mil, I am not sure we can afford Barnes unless we can use Sheed's contract.  In this market it seems like slim pickings.  Maybe we find a young guy and Doc has to play him, kinda makes me miss Bill Walker..

I think Barnes would be a downgrade from Tony and I think signing Nate is the most important thing right now.

He would would a great addition to this team but I am pretty sure he's a west coast, warm weather type of dude so I don't see him coming here. I think this is one guy where the warm weather or California atmosphere plays a major factor on where he wants to play and Boston is not that type of place.

Barnes allowed Pierce to go off.  (where as Lebron and Artest really slowed him down)

Barnes has on attribute that'd help the C's, he's an excellent rebounder.

Other than that, yuck.

Paul Pierce - 6 rebounds in nearly 39 minutes a game.
Matt Barnes - Almost 5 rebounds in just over 23 minutes a game.

If you're a small forward with a considerably better rebounds-per-minute rate than Paul Pierce, you're an excellent rebounder for a small forward.

Seriously, did Matt Barnes boink your girlfriend or something?  He's not an all-star but if TA is gonna get 3 million a year for 3 years, there aren't a lot of better options out there for Boston.

Relative to his position, as a small forward, Matt Barnes is an excellent rebounder.
