Who is he looking at as his replacement? IMO, he either:
1) placed a value on TA and the Grizz' offer was over that value
2) he has had someone else in mind this offseason for similar money that brings some additional trait to the table that Tony doesn't.

My question is--who would that be? Or am I just way off base with this assumption?

Could also be that he has something bigger lined up with Rasheed's deal.  TA isn't nearly as necessary if he's going to nab a significant wing with Rasheed's contract.

#1 is typically the right way to do things.

Part of the problem could also be time frame. Did Memphis want a decision now while the Celts weren't ready to commit yet?

I brought this up in the other thread but what is going on with Ronnie Brewer? With TA in Memphis, I would think he is done there. Is there any way we could get him?

To me, must be one or more of the following:
1. The years involved in the deal. Im guessing Danny wanted a two year deal.
2. Sheed's contract used to bring someone to replace him. Danny may have something working already, or just hopes to get something done at some point during the offseason.
3. Danny and Doc are very high on avery bradley and his defensive capabilities, something both mentioned when drafting him saying he is defensively "nba ready".

the team to beat...
a force to reckon with...
just pick your poison.

I think Danny does not see Tony as a 3rd wing (he has already been burned by that once), and I think he felt 3/10 million was too much to pay for a 4th wing.  They can likely get a decent replacement with the vet minimum, and Bradley has a chance to bring some similar things.

This really puts the pressure on Danny to find a really strong 3rd wing with the few assets he has left, but I think this decision does make a lot of sense.

bradley is replacing tony. he is a great defender with more offensive game...and he is ony 19. danny needs to get a LEGIT 6'8 type athletic wing.

I must admit this caught me a bit off guard, especially with the seeming limited resources available to replace ta.  Lends to the notion that Danny has something lined up and if it hasn't leaked at all to this point maybe it is something that would have to wait until august (a player previously traded this off season).

this may be pure speculation on my part but think it could be:

Sheed contract 6,322,320 * 1.15 trade kicker = 7,270,688 * 1.25 salary match for trade brings his value to 9,088,335

trade would be sheed and a 2nd to washington for hinrich with 2 years left at 9,000,000.

This fits into that new celt's 2 year plan.  At the same time would work for the wiz who seem to be warming on bringing gilbert back and would open up cap space for next season to build around wall.

Is ESPN doing a one hour special to announce this?? TA has more rings than Lebron. Seriously I think Tony was just good enough to get you beat. I feel confident Danny can replace TA. The C's could be better next year but unfortunatly so will the Eastern Conference. Side note....Do you think the officials will ever call a foul on the Heat? If so who will they call it on?

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
3. Danny drafted Bradley to do what Tony did last year, if TA would have come back for less years (don't think money was the sticking point but years) the we would have had him.
4. Tony wanted to go to a team where he felt he could have a chance to start so he saw a better opportunity and money wasn't that important to him.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Hinrich would be a brilliant move.

Hinrich would be a brilliant move.
Hinrich doesn't solve the problem that TA's departure creates: namely, having a player off the bench that can slow down scoring wing players.

I really doubt TA looked at the Grizzlies depth chart at the 2/3 spots and said "Gay and Mayo? Yeah, I got a good chance to start there".

It probably was the 3rd yr of the deal, that we refused to give him, that made him leave.

Isn't Hinrich's best trait his defense?

What are their PG plans? Conley was a reach in a weak PG draft. How much time would Mayo and TA see together on the floor?
