Pierce has definitely gotten fat. That is not muscle gained, that is fat. Nothing new though, i've noticed it for a while.

I also think Pierce puts the work in at the gym, but he must not eat right or take the proper supplements.

I remember him saying he liked his fried chicken and what not.

Anyone who works out and doesn't take care of his body while out of the gym will not look like Ray Allen or Ben Wallace.

Yes.

Go to a game and sit close to the court and you will see he is not "fat" around the middle but just thick in his frame. He was quite thin when he came in the league and when his man muscle build kicked in at about 26 or 27 he filled out.

It's just his natural frame and build. Dude's a strong man and big. That's why he's able to muscle with Lebron and some of the other bigger SFs and smaller PFs in the league.
Yeah. Dude was really lean last two season but really strong.

In practice with different gear on, you can really see that he is not fat at all. He is just really strong. You can't get a feel for his stomach with basketball unis on. They hang weird.

It has become a cliche to say that he isn't in shape but he comes in each camp fast and with hops. When he slows down later in the season, it has nothing to do with conditioning. It is wear and tear over the course of a physical season.

It's pretty darn hard to get lean once you hit the 30 mark i'd imagine, especially for a basketball player because he needs to focus a lot more on his basketball skills than losing an x amount of weight. He's not out of shape, fat, or chubby. Paul is incredibly strong and has a thick body type.

Agreed.

I used to buy the "it's his build" excuse, but not anymore. I think he puts in the work in the weight room and on the treadmill, but he just isn't eating right. So technically/physically he's not out of shape he's just has a higher body fat percentage because of what he's eating. I got no problem with it, but I think it might catch up with him.

Hasn't been in shape for years? Are you kidding me?

Do you remember when they came back after the championship year and opened up against Cleveland? He was so quick and lean he literally faked Lebron out of his jock strap on two different drives to the basket.

No that was sarcasm. of course he's in great shape it's just his build.  He's thick boned.  The comment was more geared towards the same concept being brought every year and it's never close to being true.

I wonder sometimes about people questioning the size of some of our players, BBD included.  Sort of bizarre to be honest.

I thought Paul was in his best shape in years this year, up until his knee injury at the all-star break he was jumping higher and finishing better than i’d seen in a while.

Now this is after we won in 2008 and the guys were in Vegas, granted not a great photo. But Paul certainly isn't ripped, but never was. It doesn't matter too much I think. Like someone said above, he comes into the season looking quick, dunking, etc. then he slows down. That's a normal thing to happen as a 30 something basketball player, who has had surgery on his knees.

I remember this past season Paul was blowing by people early on and was dunking regularly and then he had that knee "irrigated" or whatever and couldn't work on his legs and he slowed down.

Bottom line is I trust Paul to be prepared mentally and physically all the time, especially at this point in his career.

Yes Pierce has put on weight.  Forget the pictures, just watch a little of this video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MI3sj3XKrQ

No offense to the original poster, but I'm going to guess maybe you're early 20's or younger?  I think some of the older posters know you just put on that grown man weight when you get older.  Like other posters have said you just fill out.  I think if you look at pics of 99% of NBA athletes who who have had long careers in the league, you're going to see them a lot thicker later in their careers, just the way it works.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I have made the decision to only use pictures of Antoine Walker along with captions to exhibit my feelings:

He is out of shape. He could be way leaner.

You can be fat and quick. It's his endurance that comes from being leaner.

Ive been saying this for year he could be in better shape. He doesnt strike me as a gym rat. As a SF, he looks to be one of the most out of shape guys out there.

And please, dont say PP is fit, because BBD is fatter. BBD has a weight clause in his contract for ****!!!

That being said, maybe others are cheating *lebron*, by taking illegal supplements. Maybe PP is just a regular guy, and this is what happens.

But I do think if he drops a few pounds, that knee holds up a whole lot longer.
