US State Tax and Player Salaries

Could someone explain how US State Taxes affect NBA Players salaries?  The thought struck me that if the Miami Wades all took "discounts" by signing in Florida, where there isn't a state tax I hear?, that the net outcome might be the same as, say, staying in Cleveland and paying "X" amount is Ohio taxes?
