So first off, not sure if im posting this in the right place, so feel free to move this if need be.

Now I am a Pats Fan, but with Brady being injured, then recovering for a year, and the fact that I dont even want to picture him with another team i have decided to follow this Premise with Peyton.

Peyton Manning is a player that can turn any franchise around.  Now consider that you are in the NFL where every team can cut players at will and free up Cap Space.  If Peyton decided he could make more money doing commercials (I know peyton in more commericals? makes me wanna puke) being in another city rather than Indy and became a free agent, wouldnt there be just as much if not more fanfare than the lebron fiasco for Peyton joining a new team.

My reasoning, theoretically every team in the league could be involved.  Historically the NFL has more fans than the NBA, and finally Peyton has arguably been just as if not more dominant in his sport than lebron over the past 3 years.

So what do people think?  With Peytons free agency coming up soon, could he theoretically do the same thing if not bigger than lebron?  (I know it wouldnt happen, even as a pats fan, I know Peyton isnt a jerk, he wouldnt do this to Indy.)But just for fun.. ;)

Funny ... similar story-line ... he's probably the most talented, (like LeBron), but also chokes in the games that count. Interesting question, and I wouldn't assume that he's "above" making a similar move, if he felt it was in his interest. Different climates and considerations, though, so I think it would play out much differently.

ESPN would turn it into a three-ring circus but Manning has way too much class and respect for the game to ever do a televison special like Lebron did.

I am with ya Don's as much as I hate Peyton, which i think is because i respect him, i cant picture him doing it.  I just mean couldnt his (and Brady's) impending free agency be just as huge as Lebrons?  I think if Brady and Peyton were both free agents talking to other teams, it would be bigger than Lebron.

it wouldn't unfold the same way, i don't think.

Manning is very different from Lebron.

The sports are also different, so the impact of one player, even a quarterback, is no guarantee of success.

Manning is also further in his career.

A closer comparison could have been John Elway 6 seasons in. FOrced some sketchy draft day trades, i think...then close, but no cigar for a while...then if he were a fully unrestricted FA the same season Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith were, and those two decided to play together and everyone was waiting on Elway...that may be close.

No.

The NBA, unlike other team sports, is the ultimate 'star' sport.  The other 3 major team sports are 'team' sports.

Therefor, there is not one guy in those other sports that would be able to create the circus to the level of Lebron.

Now there would be a circus, but it would reach the level of the Lebron show.

I think baseball is the ultimate star league... you can have a team of superstars, and interaction matters very little (except you have to have a team guy as a catcher - otherwise your pitchers revolt.) And you can spend as much as you want.

NBA a superstar makes a bigger impact stars can play almost 20% of a team's minutes, but you have to have chemistry on the court.

Anyways - I wish Lebron had said "I chose me" like Kelly on 90210.

You can also have a team of superstars lose in the playoffs to a team with a roster of young, hungry and low payed players.

In the NBA, that is nearly impossible.  The "star" gets to many benefits on the court.

I Dunno Guys, I guess i have to disagree with you on the whole star sport thing.  I think Peyton could go to say, The Rams and at least boost them up by 5 wins.  Which is huge in Football.

Favvvrreeerrerrrerrr is probably the only other athlete besides LeBron who pulls something like this. Manning has too much class and respect for the profession to be "ME, ME, and ME".

Heck no!  Peyton Manning actually has respect for the game of football and himself.  LeEdited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. James has neither.

Regardless of what effect Peyton Manning's free-agency would have, I, as a Cincinnati native, would honestly consider 'kidnapping' Carson Palmer just to have a shot at signing Peyton Manning.

Tom Brady? Meh, not so much. Though Brady's legacy as one of the greatest QB's in NFL history certainly cannot be over-looked...
