Seems like the players available at the 2 and 3 are limited. Would a player like Bobby Simmons be a good option? hes a decent sized wing (6'6'' 230) who can shoot the 3(.401%) and is a much better offensive player than Marquis Daniels. I am not sure about his defense but he is a big wing player and would definately help them on the offensive end. What other options are there for the vet min at the 2,3 positions?

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Bobby Simmons seems to lack emotion to me. I hope we do better.

Well, he did play for the Nets...... who would you like to see for the vet min instead? I doubt the team is going to bring back Daniels he was awful.

Good point. Imagine getting drafted by the Nets. The Nets??? Why not be the "Backboards"?

if Bobby Simmons is willing to sign for the minimum, I'd certainly welcome him on the team. He can be a bigger tony allen on D but he brings the counterpart to Tony's offensive game. He's a better shooter than driver, or should I say decision maker. He could defend his position and simply spot up in the corner on offense ala Bruce Bowen or Pietrus. I understand he's not of the quality of those two, but that could be his role on this team. Having both him and Tony off the bench could be really helpful defensively over the course of the season. We would have good defensive bench players at all five positions in Bradley, Tony, Simmons, Baby, and JO. I hope we can get something better than this with Rasheed's contract, though. But simmons would be a good addition, and could actually pay off huge. He has always been a good 3 point shooter (before last year, but he was hurt) and one season actually averaged like 16 points and shot 43.5 percent from 3 for the year. Of course he'd never do that on our team, but it shows that he's more than capable offensively.

Good option at vet min, can always "Daniels" him if he's not up to snuff or we get someone better.

I see him as a nice fall back option.

Really want to see them go after Bogans or Dorrell Wright.

Sad to say, I think Daniels is a better player.  Josh Howard is who I really think would be a great addition.

When he gets healthy.

I fear what he might be doing when he is recovering.  (if the Celtics sign him)

Dorell Wright would be nice to bring in. He is young, can play both the 2,3 and is long at 6' 9''. Bogans, however, did not play well at all for the Spurs last year. 4.4 ppg, 1 apg, and 2 rpg in 20 min, avg 3pt shooter... no thank you. I really do not see Josh Howard coming to the Celts either. Hes going to get 8-10 million somewhere else.

This is the summer for absurd contracts.

I see Simmons getting at least $3M per year, D. Wright and J. Howard at least $4M/yr.

I just don't think any of these guys will be available for the min.
Celtics fan for life.

  • Another undersized Celtic...

I agree with Simmons. Another guy that might be okay with a change of scenery from the Nets is Trenton Hassell. He was always a decent shooter, not really from three, but I remember him giving the C's some trouble in the past. He'd be a back up 2, and his D may benefit from our help defense. He may be a bit undersized though, as I think he's 6'5" or 6'6".

Vet min I would take him but I wouldnt pay him much else. He was a good player in his contract year and after he got big money he kind of trailed off. He would be a nice last option for the bench but like I said for the vet min.

He was at least technically available as a midseason FA pick-up last year and we chose Michael Finley, so it seems unlikely that we would pick him up.  I haven't watched him much since his Clipper days.  Has a very nice jumper if he's given time and space and he used to hustle pretty good.

I was just going to start a thread with wings I'd like to sign and Bobby Simmons was high on the list... Coming off the ridiculous (IIR 5yr/$60M deal) contract bouncing around bad teams, he might be willing to take the min on a title-contending team.

other guys i'd like to target:

James Singleton (accounts in WAS was that he was a great locker room guy and brought energy all the time on the court)

Jarvis Hayes - solid vet, decent offensive contributor

Rafer Alston - i'd still like to add a vet. PG
