It just hit me,i bet Byron Scott is peeved :)

I'm guessing he isn't.  Now he gets to coach instead of carrying a clipboard for the messiah.

Also, I don't think this team is nearly as bad as people think it is.  A 6-8 seed at worst.   And Scott is a solid coach.
I think they need to make an offer to Richard Jefferson, and work from there. Jefferson could score 18 to 20 points on that team. He wouldn't replace James, but he would keep the Cav's relevant...maybe a 4th seed.

You guys are suprisingly optimistic. Maybe its just my past hatred of the Cavs influencing my judgment but I see the Cavs as currently constructed minus Lebron as a 30 win team.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

With cap room and a massive trade exception, they won't remain as currently constructed.  Will they make good moves?

Right, but add R-Jeff and they become a mid-40's win team capable of making noise in the first round -- perhaps not much more than that.

This worked on the ESPN Trade Machine:

Cleveland and Minn have had talks about Al Jefferson so:

We get AV

Minn gets Sheed BB D Gibson (Sheed retires and they get cap room)

Cleveland gets AJ

Cleveland's roster right now.

Starting 5

Mo Williams
Delonte West
Anderson Varejao
JJ Hickson
Antawn Jamison

Bench

Anthony Parker
Jamario Moon
Leon Powe
Daniel Gibson

If Cleveland can resign Big Z, using their new cap space to offer him a big contract, and they continue to play tough defense, I don't see any reason why that team couldn't contend for the 7th or 8th playoff spot.  They're still a big, physical team and what they lose in firepower in LeBron, they may make up some of that with better offensive balance and flow.

They'll be a very bad defensive team.

Why?  His blocks on breakaway layups are amazing, but LeBron is not the sort of defensive presence that KG was and hopefully will be next season.

Here's a simple trade that might make sense for two teams.

Ben Gordon for Anderson Varejao.

Gordon would be a little redundant playing alongside Mo Williams.  Be giving up a little size, although probably not much worse than  when they play Delonte and Mo together.  Cleveland's real issue is that they don't have ANYONE who can create their own shot, and they don't have a real point guard who can create shots for someone else.  Ben Gordon wouldn't solve the need for a legit point guard, but he can create his own shot, he can handle much of the scoring load for them.

If Cleveland can get lucky and find a legit, starting-caliber PG, Mo Williams would be perfect off the bench.

Cleveland would need a center, don't think you'd want Jamison playing there.  Maybe Hickson, a little bit?  Cleveland would still have the MLE, probably go after Brad Miller with it (hopefully for no more that two years.

For Detroit, they just signed Gordon last year, and probably aren't ready to give him up yet.  As we've known since that signing, they have way too much overlap at the wings, with Gordon, Rip, Prince, and Stuckey (who ain't a PG, either).  They'd love to get rid of Rip, but nobody's biting on that contract.

And... they pretty desperately need a center.  Ben Wallace will be back, but he's year-by-year now.  You couldn't play Wallace and Varejao together, but you could give Andy 30 minutes and Ben 18 and be in decent shape.  When Ben finally hangs them up for good (or signs in Boston ;)), they'll have a decent 5.

Alternatively, a crap-for-crap trade, they might think about a Rip-for-Mo deal.  One bad contract for another.  Mo's not a natural PG, but he's closer to being a 1 than Stuckey or Gordon.  Detroit could start Mo, Gordon, and Prince, with Stuckey off the bench, and be in OK shape.  Rip Hamilton's not nearly as good a player as he once was, but he's a little bigger and I think a little better fit in Cleveland.  This assumes that you're keeping Delonte around, and he'll start at the point (an issue to be resolved on a later day).

Oh really? Why don't you ask Paul Pierce if he agrees with you.

I'm sorry, but that team is headed for the lottery.

We could sign D'West so we can mess around with LB's mind with his Momma-West thing.

Why do we need to sign West for West to do that?  He can do that while playing for someone else.

No thanks.

Yep, Bankshot, it's a lottery team now.  Nice group of role players with no star.

When we play them in the Playoffs. West can diss him inside the court and maybe Bron might go tick. Or maybe I might just being playful.
