"O'Neal also is interested in Boston but the source said he realizes the Celtics don't have much interest in him. A source confirmed to Povtak on Wednesday that, while the Celtics have great respect for Shaq, he would disrupt their chemistry. "He'd really like to go to San Antonio and team with Timmy (Duncan), and try to win one more title,'' said the source about O'Neal, who starred in high school in San Antonio. Spurs general manager R.C. Buford declined comment. The source said O'Neal, 38, plans to play two more seasons and then retire. He wants there to be a farewell tour in 2011-12, which he expects would be his 20th and final NBA season. FanHouse.com"

"A source" needs to elaborate.

I'm glad to hear that. Shaq is not the answer and his ego could be a problem. Stay away from him, I'd rather sign a guy like Jermaine O'Neal or Brad Miller.

No further details provided. It's a throwaway comment, one that screams "shoddy reporting".

Shaq would disrupt our chemistry? Seriously?

Is managing him worse than managing Sheed?

If Boston were interested in a name as big as Shaq, wouldn't we have heard something by now?

Shaq was at the top of my center list despite my better judgement. He may be done on defense compared to Jermaine and Brad.

Jermaine is the guy I want, and I had been surprised we hadn't heard anything about him until today. His game is a perfect fit for this team. Same goes for Brad Miller.

Shaq is a greedy son of a gun if he wants more than the MLE... He should realize that a farewell tour in Atlanta won't have the appeal he desires. Go to Miami or Dallas, etc.

God, I hate those last two options. A washed up injured apparently lazy center, and a washed up slow dirty thug. No thanks.
And no, I don't want Shaq either. How can anyone seriously consider him- he's killed the last two teams that thought he'd put them over the top, and he's injury-prone, old, and slow.

I think they mean playing style wise. It was pretty clear in the Finals that the C's are at their best when they get stops and run out on the fast break. Shaq gets abused on pick an rolls, so he would hurt our defense and clog up the lane for rondo and PP on offense.

Jermaine Oneal is a much better defender at this point , and can beat most centers up the court on the fast break. Plus he can hit an 18 ft jumper and work the pick and pop with rondo. He is a much better fit than shaq in our system.

I wonder why Shaq isn't considering going back to Miami.  Seems like he would be just what the doctor ordered.

Sheed always has been considered a great teammate. He just has on court anger issues.

I wonder if this is all coming from the Mazz article where he claimed there would be chemistry issues.

I don't see it.  Shaq didn't make much of a stink when he took a back seat to far inferior players than are on the Celtics.  Another year older, I see him making less of a stink.

Of the three old and washed up players, the first two seem to be the only one who understand their roles.

So yeah, I can envision Shaq killing our chemistry when he's asked to come off the pine for 15 minutes per game once Perkins is back.

Shaq is lazy. I don't care what age you are or how dominant you USED to be. Shaq has stop preparing himself to help his team years ago in Los Angeles. That definitely does not make him a bad person. He's probably an awesome guy but I prefer a mad dog type player. I want players who want it bad. Just my personal preference but I also think Shaq's lack of dedication doesnt help chemistry.

Oh ok. The only reason I am advocating for Shaq is because with his size he would be able to clog the paint, which would prevent the likes of Pau and Bynum to shoot easily over us.

I said last year that Shaq in Cleveland would be a huge mistake because it took that team out of what it did best, which was play great defense and create on the break. He clogged up the lane for LeBron and forced him to be more of a perimeter player in a slow down half court offense. Not LeBron's strength.

He would have a very similar effect hear and being Shaq he would want to come in as a leader and be in "The Man" role, a role he had in Cleveland as long as it didn't interfere with LeBron's "MAN" role. That wouldn't play here.

He's a horrible fit on the court and a bad fit in the locker room and a terrible fit with Doc Rivers, IMHO.
