  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Those who think he's not worth the MLE if not a portion of the MLE are fooling themselves. He'd be a perfect 3rd big since he can play both the 4 and 5. He's a big physical PF/C who rebounds, defendss and can give you some occasional offense. He's not the all-star he used to be, but he is far from a bum

Jermaine O'Neal is a thug and a loser.  I won't cheer for that POS no matter what his jersey says.  I truly hope Danny isn't this desperate.  He's not Celtic material.

Well, I want to see how much its for.  As much as I hate him, JO is still a very useful player.  I would be disappointed if it is a large portion of the MLE, but if its 3 million or less, then its a no brainer.

Exactly.  If the money is respectable enough, I have no problem having this guy around.

I would be elated for JO to join the C's for a portion of the MLE. That means we will use Sheed's deal to get a wing or maybe package it in a S&T  to get multiple players.

Guys, I have followed JO since he was a skinny 6'9 freshman at Eau Claire HS in Columbia, SC. He is very skilled, and is a year younger than KG, and has played in less games  I just think he needs to be in a winning situation.

Sure, he has not always shown the most character, but do you guys really think he is worse than Sheed as far as attitude?

I think JO will be better than Sheed for the C's. That would be 3 SC high schoolers on the team, as he would join Ray(hopefully) and KG.

JO can block shots, rebound and score from mid range and the post.

Except he'll have to be the first big (a.k.a starting center) for a good portion of next year. Plus, Davis is doing just fine being the combo PF/C off the bench -- we need someone to replace Rasheed, which means length, rebounding, some defensive ability.

Why are some of you guys seriously putting Brad Miller ahead of Jermaine O'neal? If Jermaine is signed then he would play in a limited role when Perk gets back and would provide decent inside scoring and another big body on defense. Stop with this "he's a thug" bs. What is your defenition of a thug? Someone who commits crimes or a black guy with braids? If he can help the team then sign him, whats the big deal?
You might rift some feathers with that comment so I'll just comment on this before the thread goes in the completely wrong direction... First off I'm black and no one in this thread mentioned him as being a thug, if he is a thug so what? Steven Jackson and Ron Artest are too? I'll still go to war with them! But it is funny how they all played on that Pacers team and they have the thug label but it's no diffent than calling a 7 foot center "soft" because he isn't black.  But on another note, O'neal was just and 17 and 10 guy a few years ago, I think if he was motivated on a team where he has a legit shot at a ring his game could change.. His last two teams were Toronto and Miami which we for sure 1st round exit teams... I'm sure playing for doc and with a hungry boston team, he could be motivated again.

Brad Miller is anything bug soft, and he's way higher on my "thug" list than JO, fwiw :)

Depends on how big the "portion" is -- that is, I hope it isn't a 100% portion of the MLE.

But assuming its around half or so, I think that is a very good signing, a good short term solution for the Cs.  I would love it if Brad Miller happily took the other half, Ray resigned, and the Cs got some young talent off the bench in a trade with Sheed's contract.
Celtics fan for life.

Of the three, Shaq, Brad Miller and JO, Jermaine O'Neal is the one I would want starting for the Celtics next year. He's the youngest of the group and the most likely to be a defensive presence. I think on this team, he would be the best fit and if he stayed healthy(kinda good size if), he would be a great addition.

But for him, it better not be the whole MLE.

"nauseous" is exactly the word I used a few days ago when Kwame was brought up, but beggars can't be chooser with the salary situation as it is for the C's.  At least Kwame is still relatively young and perhaps on a good club with a great big-man coach (Clif Ray) he might develop a more consistnet game.

Put me in the "great addition for a portion of the MLE" camp. Another 7 footer with experience and can score and rebound? Who needs that? ::)

Guys who is really better? Seriously? We are not getting Dwight Howard or Yao Ming. This is a backup center, that will start in the beginning of the year. I have not heard one realistic alternative to the bashing of shaq, brad miller and now O'Neal. This is not a fantasy basketball league. We have a lot of money tied up in KG, Pierce Rondo hopefully Allen. To a lesser extent we are paying Perkins. Eventually your gonna sign less talented guys to fill the roster. I think he would be a great signing
