Quote from: Chris Iott
If the Celtics cannot bring back Allen, a trade would make sense for both teams. The Pistons would shed some salary in the long-term, and moving Hamilton would create minutes for Ben Gordon.

Rip Hamilton has 3 years/38 Million (12.65 Million per year)
32 Years old
18ppg, 3apt, 3rpg

I think this deal would take Rasheed+Perk.

I don't think we can afford to trade Rasheed's contract and Perk to get back a shooting guard.  In a perfect world Rip would replace Ray's production, and then we'd have to find a way just with the MLE to replace Perk and Rasheed's production from last year.  And even if we could do that, we still would only be back to where we were last year, not improved.

I'd much rather just pay a little more for Ray, keep Perk, and then try to replace Rasheed AND upgrade the roster with Rasheed's deal and the MLE.

Plus, Rip's 32 himself.  Younger than Ray, yes.  But he's frailer than Ray and no more help than Ray in a future rebuilding effort.  If I'm going to pay any aging shooting guard 12 million a year over the next three years, I'd rather it be Ray, especially when it means we don't give up Perk and a valuable trade chip in the process.

Jeepers, Creepers, if we have to go down this road, this battle is lost.

Keep Ray, Perk, and use Sheed's contract and the MLE to reload.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

Plan B is to trade Rasheed for Barbosa. Barbosa and TA share the SG spot.

I would rather stick to Plan A: Resign Ray Allen.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
ouch...  Rip was injured and had terrible numbers last season (I believe he shot a career-low in FG%).  Here's hoping there's a Plan C or D out there...

Rip is one of my favorite jump shooters off of screens, but he has fallen off a little bit

If plan A doesn't happen (which I believe is unlikely - we want Ray, Ray wants to stay), and THAT'S plan B, I roll the dice with whatever plan C is.
