You guys need to get off Josh Smith's nuts. He's only good at two, maybe three things. #1: blocks. Blockas are great and really hard to come by, gotta give it to him with that. #2: Dunks. Who cares? We've had two slamdunk champs in the past 5 years. How did either of them do? Ehhhh. and #3. Rebounding. He's not great at it, but its always a plus.
Regardless, he is not a "Fringe all-star". He's not even in the top 10 in the NBA at his position. He's not even a 10/10 guy.
What is the fascination with him??
You serious? Did Josh sleep with your girlfriend or something?
He's a really good player. Imagine him running the break with Rondo.... Wow. He may not be a great shooter, but he can knock down open shots. He can drive pretty well for a PF as well. He doesn't force shots, he takes what he gets. He's a great defensive player. Young and athletic.
He may not be a 10/10 guy (is that a special number or something?) but he is a 16pt/9reb/4ast/2blk/1.5stl guy. I'd take that over a "10/10 guy" anyday.
Are you kidding me? Okay all you said was he can run the break, which yeah is good. But Big Baby can do that...for LESS money. Josh Smith is not a "really good player," he's good at best. Obviously he can knock down OPEN jumpers. I mean, Perk can knock down 10 footers when wide open. And yeah, for a STARTING forward, 10/10 is exactly what you want. And don't give me those bullsh*t numbers. First of all, he has never once in his career gotten 9 boards a game for a season. NEVER. All you did was copy and paste his best stat from each category throughout his career. None of those have ever happened together in one year. None of them are even his averages. You gotta get your facts straight Greenenvy.
All I'm saying is he doesn't like Boston and would never come here. People are throwing his name around like he's the answer. We need a center (like Tyson Chandler) and a SG, aside form resigning Ray and Tony. Powell is SF not a SG or C, so were both wrong on that note. But he's consistent. And Powe is not under contract. Its a team option for next year, which they haven't picked up yet.
First off, I was going strictly off last seasons stats, when he averaged:
15.7 ppg
8.7 rpg
4.2 apg
2.1 bpg
1.6 spg
Sorry if I round numbers. You can't get .7 of a rebound or a point. nor can you get .2 of an assist or .1 of a block/steal.
Now you have his literal stat line from last season. Not impressive enough for you?
He'd do many things for this team, from easy transition buckets and great defense, to the easy alley-oops from Rondo (what PF can get up like him? Not many) and excellent offensive rebounding, he really is a unique player. If you can't see that, I don't know what to tell you.
The reason why so many people are talking about his is because it's the beginning of July and he is rumored to be on the market. They'd be looking to move him to shed salary. We have 'Sheed's contract. We have decent players at affordable prices, such as BBD and Nate/TA in a S&T.
If they want to move him, we should inquire.
Nobody is saying he is the missing piece.
And again, who cares whether he likes it here or not, if he gets traded, he has no choice but to play.
As for Powe, I believe you have your facts wrong. He is under contract (but maybe not fully guaranteed, but you can't assume he will be released):
http://shamsports.com/content/pages/data/salaries/cavaliers.jsphttp://hoopshype.com/salaries/cleveland.htmAnd Powell is at best a PF. Nowhere is he listed as a SF. Just PF/C.
