Quote
The Celtics have made an offer to free-agent guard Ray Allen, but the length or value of the deal remains unknown.

"While Celtics GM Danny Ainge said an offer has been made to Ray Allen, he declined to reveal years or dollar amount," FanHouse's Chris Tomasson wrote on his Twitter page.

In my opinion if Ray was SERIOUS about coming back he would have handled the situation exactly how Pierce did... This reminds me of the James Posey situation.. I wouldn't be opposed to a sign and trade with the Heat, Knicks, Bulls, which are his likely destinations. Beasley, Wilson Chandler & Curry, Deng? All would be decent options but I'm not too sure about Deng.

I think it's too early to label it as anything.  It's probably a low offer, but I think Danny's worried about bidding against himself.  Ray's market is somewhat limited.  He's really only useful to a team looking to contend.  I mean even if NJ strikes out, are they really going to want to spend money on Ray when all he'll do is take them from a 20 win team to a 25 win team (or whatever)?  Even if they do, won't they only offer him 1 year so they can make a run at free agents next year?

So unless he wants to take the MLE to go elsewhere (something Danny will certainly match), he wants big money at one year, or the stars align and LeBron joins Wade in Miami without Bosh (leaving room for Ray), he's likely coming back.

I just dont wanna over pay allen for too many years... Even a Sheed like contract for Ray scares me a bit due to age...We need to get younger and more athletic.

Would he want to relocate for the sake of couple of dollar? Ray is a family man. His decision will be based on what is best for his family & his diabetic son. So at the end of the day, I think Ray returns.

The only reason why I would be ok with him leaving is because Ainge is very creative and I would much rather see him being very agressive to fill the 2 position rather than rely on Allen to return and run out of gas towards the Finals.

Young and athletic don't equate to championships.

Lakers weren't exactly gazelles.

I was thinking along the lines of a 3 way trade with sheed & curry's contracts with us landing Ellis,Arenas,VC,

Don't forget, Ray let us down in the playoff's
I would rather have JJ Redick, Anthony morrow, play the 2 for us than to sign ray to a 3 year deal.
I think we should invest and trade for Rudy Fernandez, he can be our starting 2. Ray is going to get offers for 40 million in this market, and we know that is not fair after how he played in the finals, guy could not buy a basket.

Ray didn't let us down

Ray play defense as well as anybody could do on Wade and Kobe

without Ray we probably wouldn't even be in the finals

or maybe there won't even be a 7th game

we played horrible at game 2

Ray shoots us into a W at game 2

but i do agree we have to move on if he is looking for too much

for me i'll offer 3 years 20 that's as far i can accept

guy play like in his early 30s but he is a 35 going 36 year old

would be nice to have rudy

i think he is quick and athletic enough to play defense

I would rather have Ray than those three guys. Ellis just scares me, he needs the ball to be affective. If we had Ellis controlling the ball what does Rajon do?

Vince is the same player as Pierce at this point so how does he help us?

Arenas brings so much garbage to the table the Wiz can keep him. Plus hes a point guard not a shooting guard. The Celtics need to bring Allen back if they want to meet the Lakers and win banner 18.

Pierce contract is going to hurt us in getting Ray back.  We just gave him 15 mil a season...we have been billing the Big Three as equals so long that Ray is going to expect something similar, There's no way he's signing here for 8-10 a year

I don't remember billing them as equals.  They are not equals. It's insane for Ray to expect to get paid as much as PP, imo.

Everybody knows that the aren't equals and Im not trying to say they are...but I do feel that they have been billed that way in the Big Three era.  Remember for the first season they weren't even doing individual interviews.  Im not saying he would demand as much as Paul, but I doubt he's signing for less than 12/yr
