ORLANDO – The re-signing of Joe Johnson might not be the only big splash the Atlanta Hawks make this summer.

Free-agent center Shaquille O'Neal is seriously considering a two-year deal with the Hawks that starts at the mid-level exception of $5.8 million, according to NBA sources close to both the team and the future Hall of Fame player.

Quote
"I think he wants to see how everything shakes out with all the free agents, but he's seriously considering Atlanta's offer,'' said the source who asked that his name not be used. "He wants to play two more years, and he wants it to be with a contender. He thinks he can help them become a serious one.''

Quote
"He wants to make sure he finishes with a contender, and in a city he likes,'' said the source

I wanted the C's to take a shot at getting Shaq, but obv not at the expense of using the whole MLE on him. So I guess the only center out there that can help us now is Brad Miller (even though I really don't like him).

Chris Broussard says Boston and Shaq have expressed mutual interest in Shaq playing for Boston next season.

Quote
He has great respect for Boston's coach, Doc Rivers, a good relationship with Kevin Garnett, and it was Shaq who gave Paul Pierce his nickname, "The Truth." With starting center, Kendrick Perkins, sidelined for up to six months after undergoing knee surgery to repair a torn ACL, O'Neal would seem to be a solid replacement.

They also might trade Josh Smith. Love to see him in a Celtic uniform.
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

This tells me Shaq wasted the $300mil he made from the league. Or else he would've retired by now, or signed for Vet min for an actual contender. What other reason would make Shaq go to Atlanta, if its not about the money?

That may make Zaza Pachulia expendable

He's prob trying to earn as much money as he can for all that child support/alimony that he has to pay.

But at this age and after joining so many team, if Shaq really wanted to play for a team that can actually contend (because I don't see the Hawks as contenders), he should have taken vet min and joined Magic, Celtics or Mavs.

I don't understand why fast teams like the Cavs and Hawks want this old guy slowing them down.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

either that or he's extremely greedy when it come to money. Maybe he has a lot of kids we don't know about.

I was going to say that Shaunie is about to take him to the cleaners, like Tiger's Ex. I believe that reality show she has is just to embarrass the Diesel. Those other broads ain't doing much for their relationships either.

Atlanta needs to upgrade their PG position though, Bibby looked done to me in the playoffs.

I would be happy with Shaq as long as its not for the full MLE. He is a huge body that can take up space. Hes not great anymore but lets me honest as long as he can still back down and dunk he can give you 15-20 decent minutes. He would be great for the right price.

Won't believe it till he signs. Shaq would be the ideal Center to step in for Perk.

If Bron signs elsewhere, maybe that's the S&T Cleveland would be willing to do? Throw a couple mill their way and everyones happy. Shaq replaces Sheed, and we still have the MLE to fill other needs.
