Sheed for Beasley?

Now, I know the guy's been a spectacular underachiever but he's got more raw talent than anyone else Boston could possibly land this offseason.  Miami could use the few extra million from Sheed's contract after he retires to sweeten the pot for a Wade/LeBron/Bosh or Wade/LeBron/Boozer deal.  Boston gets a Lamar Odom-type big with tremendous potential to bring off the bench now and pair with Rondo in years to come.

That deal, a resigned Nate and TA and throwing the MLE at Shaq sounds pretty good to me.

Pat Riley was willing to part with Beasley for Keyon Dooling's expiring contract. He has shopped him around the league for the better part of the last three weeks without any takers. If Boston offered Sheed's contract for relief to Miami for Beasley and Chalmers, Riley would do backflips, he would be so happy. Riley would trade Beasley to Boston for cap relief in a half a second if given the chance, of that I have no doubt.

It's not as if Beasley is some difference making All-Star. If trading Beasley to the Celtics was the difference between Miami getting three max level players and not, you can bet your life savings that Riley would have Beasley bound for Boston.

New Jersey turned down the offer for Beasley because they wanted the cap space because they feel cap space is more important and better for the team than Beasley. Miami feels the same way. Beasley has been offer to every team in the league that has cap space and Riley has been turned down every time.

He's willing to give him away for nothing at this point because he needs the cap space. Whether Beasley will make another Eastern Conference team better means nothing to Riley because he's convinced in two years, if he gets three max level free agents, the Heat will be the Eastern Conference Champs no matter what.

Miami hasn't been able to give Beasley away. They tried to swap him for a 2nd round draft pick and were denied. Why would we give up a valuable contract for a player with so much baggage he can't be given away? Beasley is not a quality NBA player.

I'd definitely trade Sheed for Beasley and Chalmers.

Sheed for Beasley straight up I would have to think long and hard.

I think the instant cap relief Sheed provides could net us more.

Yeah... Let's not give Miami any MORE cap room. Not only could we use Sheed's contract for something much much more valuable for us, we also dont need Miami to turn into the super power house of the East.

If anything is going to happen, it's going to have to happen very quickly.  Riley needs the cap space now and if we wait, he may no longer have need for 3 max contracts if players decide not to go to Miami.  Unfortunately, unless Wallace is going to commit one way or another today or tomorrow, I don't see it happening.  

As for Beasley, he's interesting.  Getting him would mitigate the need to spend the MLE on a guy like Mike Miller as Beasley could fill the role of scorer off the bench.  We'd then be free to spend the MLE on a big man or split it.  Plus, while I wouldn't bet the house on him being a star, it's certainly still possible.

With his talent, and considering the other likely options, I sure hope Ainge is at least thinking about this.  There is literally no other player the Cs could get with greater upside potential in both the short and long term.

I am also hesitant to go so far as to say "not NBA-level talent" based on only two seasons.  The kid has issues for sure, but there aren't many YOUNG frontcourt players available out there as this price.  Maybe Clifford Ray could mold him into a decent player.

I guess I am higher on Beasley than others and am not so sure Miami is just trying to give him away (yes, I am aware of the salary cap possibilities). While Miami may not be the place for him, I do think an environment like Boston would really help him thrive. Beasley really is decent guys and I would be psyched if we got him and Chalmers for Sheed's contract...

We couldnt just trade picks for Beasley because we're over the cap. We'd have to send something back.
