The Mavericks presented an offer to Dirk Nowitzki's advisor, Holger Geschwindner, on Friday and they are expected to meet with the All-Star on Saturday.

Dallas was expected to make a maximum offer to Nowitzki, which would be worth $96 million over four years.

"It was a very productive meeting. Everything seems to be progressing nicely," Mavericks president Donnie Nelson said of his meeting with Geschwindner. "We're hoping that tomorrow we'll be able to get some resolution."

Nowitzki opted out of the final year of his contract and became a free agent for the first time in his career on Wednesday night.

Wow...looks like DA signing Pierce for 4 yr/61 million is much more reasonable than what the Mavs are trying to do to keep their franchise player.

Has there been any decline in Dirk's game? I feel like he can continue his midrange game for a long time with that height. Well, during the regular season that is.

I also suspect that his lack of playoff success in Dallas made him more likely to consider moving than Pierce. Cuban also doesn't seem to care if he has to pay out of his own pocket to keep the team competitive.

Give Danny and Paul some credit, PP's contract is good for the Celtics based on everything else that is going on.  Dirk is no better than Paul, certainly not $35M better.  We will see in a few years but I suspect $24M per year is going to seem pretty heavy pretty soon.

I thought Dirk's defense + rebounding dipped over the past two seasons but his offensive game is as lethal as ever.

The Mavericks didn't have much choice in the amount they paid. If they didn't pony up someone else surely would have.
