There is a rumor that Houston is trying to work a S&T that would send Scola, Ariza and Battier to Toronto for Bosh or Phoenix for Amare.

Maybe the Cs can help out in a 3 way trade and include Sheed's contract to nab Trevor Ariza?

I think he's a bit overpaid (though not by much, considering the current going rate for FAs), but would be an excellent backup for Pierce.

Then use MLE to get a big man.

You don't know that, he's still very young and will continue to develop.

I would be just as tempted to get battier -- excellent defender who would fit in well on the Cs.

I would rather Ariza than Battier.

I think Ariza's quickness and athleticism would be a great addition to the Celtics. It would be fantastic to see Rondo have a wing who fills the lanes like Ariza does.

Furthermore, Ariza is the better all-round offensive player due to his superior play in transition + cutting ability + offensive rebounding + ball-handling ability. Ariza is also a better rebounder and provides about 80% of what Battier does defensively. Add in the young age and Ariza's ability to be a long term fixture here in Boston, and, I think Ariza is the clear winner.

------------------------------------------

That said, I don't see Houston trading Ariza or Battier for anything other than talent. So the Sheed for one of them proposal, I don't think that has any legs.

I expect the Rockets will ask for Kendrick Perkins in return for either player.

But would Toronto, considering what they're paying to Hedu? They may want one of Ariza or Battier, but not likely both. Let's say they end up with Scola, Battier and Sheed for Bosh....

Oh, nice, I didn't think about it from the Raptors point of view.

Yeah, I can see Toronto being willing to let one of those players go if they received both.

Although, I don't think they will be offered both players (don't believe the report), I expect it will be one or the other + Jared Jeffries. The lack of a backup wing behind Turkoglu was a problem area last year so I expect the Raptors to keep Ariza or Battier if only one arrives.

Indeed. They'd likely want Ariza and Scola for Bosh, which would be a pretty good haul.

What about from the Suns perspective? They'd likely be thrilled to get Sheed's contract along with one good piece.

Bosh please go West. Celtics will have the upper hand in the East as long as Bosh goes west. I think over the years its been proven, you can't win without a dominate big-men. Bosh is the best PF in the east. If he moves, Celtics chances improve to reach the finals. I have a hard time believing Wade or Lebron can overthrow Celtics without Bosh. Amare & Boozer don't scare me as much.

Exactly.  This is about helping Houston get Bosh, and helping Toronto to swallow the loss of Bosh by getting expiring deals (Battier), talent (Scola) and cap relief (Sheed's contract) in return.

I guess Bosh considers this because he gets a little more money but I still think Bosh ends up with Lebron or Wade or maybe Chicago with Rose.  Houston just doesn't seem like sure enough of a bet to be a title contender, unless I guess if Bosh feels he can be "the man" and Yao is enough of a supporting cast.

Not that it's a huge thing for Houston, but who's playing the small forward for that team if they lose Ariza & Battier? I can't think of any swings for the MLE that would fit.

Nowhere near as much as Pierce hated the Celtics.

Where did you get the idea that Ariza hates the Celtics anyway?
