Well I'm hoping for Paul to retire early now.  No offense to Paul I love him, but I don't want him to be costing us cap flexibility in the future when he is over the hill and shouldn't be playing anymore.

This isn't a broken down Posey so it's no concern to me whether it's guaranteed or not.  The main point is he'll be making less this year.  In 3 or 4 years they'll be rebuilding anyway and Pierce can be a nice player coming of the bench with Rondo on a team struggling to make the playoffs.  Basically who cares.

But I'm sure it will be a big discussion point on boston sports talk radio.

Were any of the you guys alive during the 20 year drought the Celtics went through?

Wow, glad Pierce is back but this contract is going to make it tougher to bring Ray back

Nothing Pierce signed for will have any effect on Ray.

It think it makes it easier to get Ray to come back.

Now whether or not it tightens the budget a lot remains to be seen.

I'm sorry, but 4 guaranteed years is not good. I'm excited to have Pierce back, but we're going to be paying Pierce 15 million dollars when he is 36 years old.

So what?  We'd probably be a rebuilding lottery team then anyway.

Why is that it's less money THIS year all you care about?  The only thing this helps for this year as opposed to Pierce picking up his option is that it saves the owners luxury tax money.  That's it.

I would've prefered Pierce just pick up his option so that he's overpaid for one more year, instead of 4.  I think too many people are basing this contract on what he's done in the past, and not what he will do the next 3-4 years.  Do you really want a guy making $15 million/yr coming off the bench in 3-4 years?

What Paul makes this year *isn't* irrelevant. Danny has a budget every year. This could mean that we can use the MLE and trade Sheed's contract (instead of one or the other) or it could give Danny more money to offer Ray.

I'm very happy with this deal.  I'm interested to see how it's structured (i.e., does it increase, decrease, or stay level over time).

I for one, am extremely happy PP will begin and hopefully end his career in Green. He could have held out right now and waited for "a desperate I did not get Lebron team" to swoop in later on with a much larger offer. In this market where players  like Gooden are seeing 32 million and Joe Johnson a crazy 125 max offer, he would surely seen something well beyond 60.

PP showed he is loyal to the team and to our Owners/Fans. It also sends a message to future players that the Celtics do not just let their franchise player walk away when they get over 30.

I am more concerned about the team we put on the floor next year and finding a way to get back to where we were, plus a few extra points in Game 7!

Lets worry about 2012/13 when it gets here. I will be curious to see the final numbers though.

Go Celtics..welcome back PP!
