If Rondo was able to consistently knock down jumpshots, he'd have a bigger deal....plain and simple.

I dont feel bad for him getting $11 mil.,,because what other player in the league is making that much who can't shoot?

If Rondo had a decent jumper, I guarantee he would have had a bigger contract.

He should get paid based on his impact on the game. I don't feel we'd be better off with a pg who doesn't defend/pass/rebound/drive as well as Rondo but has a better jumpshot but I sometimes feel like that puts me in the minority here.

I think Rondo got a good deal. An all star PG who can't shoot shouldn't be making more than 11 million per year.

Heck, I don't think any PG is worth the max. Magic Johnson would have been the only exception because of his size.

Size and defense win championships.

Define shooting. Rondo had a better shooting % than Pierce or Allen. 1 less rebound than KG per game. His worth to any team is immeasurable because of his speed, court vision and leadership. When this team was collapsing last Fall he picked it up. He is worth more than what he is getting. I agree that $$ in sports is way out of hand.

Come on...some of you guys act like the only thing that matters is shooting jumpshots. Rondo's not that kind of player, and probably never will be. But he does so many other great things that it doesn't matter so much. Excellent passer, all NBA defender, one of the best rebounding guards in the league, and is a game changer.

I don't feel bad for him making 11 mil either, but he could of easily made more money this off season

i'm fine with this contract
it looks better for the team now
but it's also not bad for rondo

this team made him
if he stayed in suns
i doubt he would make such a big achivement in such short time

also he still has lots of time in this career
don't worry about the money so early
when KG still plays
i think many fans really want rondo to stick with him
he definitely has considered this point too
I don't even like basketball! Only God knows why I love Boston Celtics so much...

Sorry, but I just can't bring myself to feel bad for someone who's making $11M/year doing something they love and would do for free. Envy? Yes ... sorry for? Not remotely.

Well Rondo better turn into that kind of player (half court) because that's how championships are won.  He was benched a lot in the 2008 Finals and Nate should have played more this past Finals.  Rondo was supposed to be an advantage for us in the Finals, but he turned into a liability. Don't get me wrong, I love Rondo and wouldn't trade him for anyone but Paul, but he has to improve his free throw shooting and jump shot for the Celtics to have a chance.

They wouldn't have won without Rondo in '08 and he  was their best player this year not only in the playoffs altogether, but probably also in the finals.  Considering what sharp-shooter Ray Allen shot in game 7, you can't possibly say that Rondo's shooting was the cause of that loss.

I was just going to start this thread. Rondo would definitely have gotten a max deal. Lucky for us.

He will be offerd a new one when KG´s ridiculously high contract will be off our books.

I think Rondo would be a little more upset if he had a good finals.  I know he has a big ego, but hopefully the finals were a little bit humbling.

You'd excuse me if I can't feel bad for someone who's set to make over $50,000,000 before he turns 30.

This is the point im not ever going to "get" with the NBA.. you feel sorry for Rondo "only" making 11½ million dollars per year at his age.

Hell i would not even know how to spend 1 million per year even if i tryed, so no i dont feel bad for Rondo at all and no i dont believe he should be obligated to share the wealth because he earns alot.. i just think its utter insanity to say Rondo should be making 20-30 million more per 5 years regardless of how good he might be.

Im a strong advocate of lowering salarys all around, not in an attempt to save money but more of less try to keep these kids who enter the NBA closer to a sane level when it comes to money, so we dont end up with 3-5 Marbury's every year that ends up going out of the league in the most horrible way only to make headlines about being broke a few years later.

Even if rondo signed a 10m/5 year contract, i would not shed a single tear about it, infact i dont see why that cannot be lebron type money in the future.

He was "benched" during the 2008 finals because he sprained his ankle during game 3. He'd have had a case for series MVP if you just looked at his healthy games.

I understand your point but, while I wouldn't trade him for anyone other than LJ or Wade he still has some work to do before talking the heads and others will give him just do.  I think he will work on those holes and come back even stronger.  He's got a heart the size of Boston and hates to lose with uncanny athletic ability and BBIQ off the charts.  Once he cleans up the holes he'll be in the discussion with the best players in the game. Those that can't see this will act surprised.

Rondo got a good eal, Ainge made a nice salary read on the reality of who Rondo is at this point.

not who he is, but who he was

you're telling me in the open market this summer, he doesn't get a max deal from someone? If Rudy Gay and Joe Johnson get what they got, Rondo is a max guy...we got a steal

We paid him what he was worth at the time.  I agree that Rondo, if he had waited, would have made more money this summer, but not Max, no way.  In the end he and his agent chose job security, which at the time probably seemed like a very good idea considering how close he was to being traded because of his attitude.
