From what I am seeing so far, it seems like the best course for the Celtics is to try to bring the band back together and reload.  This year's team will certainly have at least one huge hurdle in the Eastern Conference, possibly 2-3 hurdles.  My idea is to try to bring in players who are in the same situation as the Big 3 were in 2-3 years ago - veterans desparate to secure their legacy and win a championship.

If the Celts can give the Knicks more money and the Knicks can give TMac to the Celtics in a sign and trade, does this do good for both teams?  Does it do anything for the Knicks to do this deal?

This will give the Celtics a player that can create his own shot and give them the flexibility to either take Ray back or find someone else that can help them.  If Ray comes back, we would have one of these guys as a legit 6th man and instant offense off the bench and we would give TMac a chance to win a couple of playoff rounds.  Perhaps we can use our mid-level exception on a rebounder.

If the Celtics want TMac, offer him the vet min.  The line for his services will be very short.

Do not give up an asset.

Also, how does this help the Knicks?  TMac is off their books.  What is the point for them?

I would rather trade Sheed for Mark Madsen than for T-Mac at this point.  Seriously..

T-Mac is a vet minimum guy at this point.  I also don't think Doc has any interest in dealing with him.

not a bad idea as a Lamar Odom type off the bench, but yeah that Doc/TMac part 1 didn't go so well....not sure if there are any lingering hard feelings

I wouldn't want O'Grady on my team it he paid me to be on it.

He should be out of the league and hopefully will be.  Disgraceful tanking waste of talent.

I wouldn't mind TMac off the bench, I think he could be a great asset.  But I'd rather sign a big first.

To use Sheed's contract on TMac would be a waste IMO. He can't give us much at this point. For vet minimum - maybe.

Ummmm... if he paid you?

I hear some people saying no to vet. min.  People, this is a classic low risk high reward for the vet min.  He has tons of talent, try him out coming off the bench, and if it doesn't work then cut him.  Thats the worst case scenario.  We've seen what the best case scenario is.  This is classic low risk, high reward for the vet min.

As others have pointed out (and as it should be noted generally) the Knicks aren't just going to sign and trade players already off their cap for Rasheed.  More importantly, if the Knicks renounce a player, they have no more right to him than we do.

I'll also say that we'd be fools to turn down McGrady at the minimum.  We took on Marbury two years ago, and while he didn't work out, he certainly didn't hurt the team.  With McGrady, there's far more upside to the situation and there's no downside.  Being able to bring in a wing off the bench who can score, handle the ball, create for others, and has size to boot would be a dream.  And if it didn't work out, we'd be no worse off than we are now.

There will be a team out there that pays T-Mac well over the vet min. There is no doubt in my mind he will be playing for an MLE next year.

I wouldn't go near this punk. I've always liked him until he started acting like a diva in Houston. Very disgraceful, how he ended Mcgrady era that era.
