This just doesn't make any sense. They'll come to their senses before the 8th. Probably just getting caught up in the FA frenzy of the morning.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

I think this is a good move for Milwaukee. No one wants to go to Milwaukee and they got a big who compliments the rest of their team nicely for less than the MLE which is surprising. On a team with Jennings, Salmons, Maggette, and Bogut Milwaukee has plenty of Scorers. Gooden will provide a banger to do the dirty work. He is a good offensive rebounder and versatile. I think he will complimnt the starters nicely. Plus we really don't know the details of the contract. There could be a team option for the last year or it could be not fully guaranteed. Anyways Ilyasova, Sanders, Bogut, and Gooden are a solid quartet of bigs and Milwaukee has a team that can compete for homecourt in the first round. Teams like Milwaukee have to overpay to get guys to go there.

This is what I always talk about whenever there is potential labor issues in this league. How can I take the owners complaints about out of control salaries seriously when they constantly do things like this.

Give them the opportunity to screw themselves and they do it every time.

Suddenly Richard Jefferson opting out seems *slightly* less crazy...

I thought Jefferson opting out was the dumbest move in free agency. However this at least competes for the worst move. I thought the owners were finally going to force some financial sense and the lockout to be only one piece of a responsible direction. Now I see the lockout as a tool for owners to keep from destroying themselves. You would think they are running the government-LOL.

That is a remarkably horrible deal after such a strong start for John Hammond as Bucks GM.  Even Maggette is somewhat defensible, as they needed a wing who could get to the line and their team defense might be able to hide him.

Let's also keep in mind though that the full details have yet to come out.  Is there a team option on one (or many) of those years?  Is there partial guarantees on one (or a few) of those years?

Gooden was paid 4.5 million last year and 7 million each of the three before it.  If a 34 year old Gooden is making 6 million than this is awful but I will wait until team options / partial guarantees become clear before judging.

His Cavs deal was longer.

No one expected the Bucks to really be in the running for the max contract guys, so it seems they finally figured that out for themselves.

Which is why the owners should lock THEMSELVES out...

I will have no sympathy when this next CBA gets ugly.  This deal is the poster-child for stupidity, and I bet there are a lot of GM's out there today reading this transaction and doing a face-palm...

I think the celtics might do themselves a favor to just stay out of free agency this year.

This looks to me to be a free agency full of mistakes and crippling contracts. And i don't want to see the celtics tie up 12 million dollars (sheed contract + mle) in contracts they'll regret.
