Besides Brad Miller, Boston has interest in acquiring Dallas center Erick Damper, especially with Kendrick Perkins sidelined six to seven months. Dampier’s $13 million salary for next season is not guaranteed, meaning the Mavericks can waive him without cost and allow him to become a free agent.

I'd pass on him, even as a replacement center... and I think some team could overpay him if he becomes a free agent.

He would be a great option, if they can get him for a reasonable deal.  He could step right in for Perkins, and would give the C's a lot of length for the playoff run.

Completely agree with you Chris.  I'd rather get Haywood except I feel he'll be to expensive, so Dampier would be a good option.

I'd rather have him than Brad Miller.

He's basically a much older version of Perk...good rebounder, good defender (although I think at this stage of their careers, Perk is a better overall defender), not a whole lot of offensive game, terrible free throw shooter.

So I wouldn't HATE the signing, but it wouldn't blow me away either.  This team needs more offensive life, offensive options.  And unfortunately, a 34-year-old version of Perk to start in his place until the all star break is not that.

He'd be a fine sto-pgap for a team that is still very much in "win-now" mode.  As with any of these guys, the money has to be right, though.

It will be great if we can land Dampier. He's not a world-beater at this stage of his career, but he can have monstrous rebounding games, and gives us the big, solid body we need under the basket while Perk is out.

I hope Dallas waive him -- and frankly, they should, because he's not worth the gargantuan contract that he's getting. However, he's a very, very solid role player and might be one of the best centers we can afford through free agency. Definitely my first pick from the scrap heap.

now we're talking, Dampier would be a great pickup for this team if Pierce and Ray are back. He would fill in for Perk very well, and would give us a 2nd Perkins with 6 more fouls when Perk is back.

Erick Dampier would be a good pick-up if we are blowing the team up and giving away Kevin Garnett for additional cap space this year.

Terrible player. I hope he is option Z. I'd take a chance on an unknown like Semih Erden over Ericka

Overpaid maybe, but much, much better than Semih Erden.
Check his numbers. He's basically an older Perk with a bigger salary. He capable of being a starting C until Perk is 100%. He's also an excellent offensive rebounder. I'd really like to see Big Baby play with him -- we'd clean up on the offensive boards.

Don't hate him just 'cause Dallas overpaid.

The only C's game I got to see this year was the game in Dallas.  It was Mrs. Banners' first NBA game, and we sat behind the hoops in pretty decent seats...and listened to quite a few very knowledgable and outspoken Mavs fans in our vicinity...HOLLERING at Dampier in anticipation of him screwing up--but they seemed to know exactly what he was going to screw up before the play even developed...it was wierd, like, they called for him to drop the ball before he dropped it, like they knew the plays and he always screwed up.  They did the same thing on the defensive end, predicting he'd blow a rotation right before he did.  It was odd, but it really keyed me in to watching Dampier's game, which I had never really done.

His defense really, really stunk, both in the post and on help D.  The fans cheered "thank god" when he picked upa  foul or whatever and Hayward came in to play some very sound ball with great rebounding.  Dampier pretty much blows, though.

I'd be okay with signing him for the minimum after he gets waived prior to next season.

  • Another undersized Celtic...
Dampier really isn't that terrible, and he's big and can play D. He's a gimpier version of Perk that got paid too much.

As long as he doesn't cost too much I'm all for it. Basically he is a older veteran version of Perk. Heywood would be my main target though, but he could cost a bit more.
