I know I may be getting way ahead of myself but let's assume that PP actually does sign elsewhere.  I would think that we would automatically renounce Ray in that case and try to get under the cap.  The estimates I have seen is that would leave us with around 15 for this summer.

Given Rondo and Perk and KG would still be here, is there a player out there worth signing for this amount?  Or do we blow it up completely next year, not sign anyone of note, and try and trade KG?

Not much.  They would need to stretch that cap space into finding a starting SG and SF, and a backup Center (who can start for a few months), and at least 1-2 backup wings.

This is what I think these players will make

Amare about 15 mil per
Rudy Gay about 12 mil per
Joe Johnson about 12 mil per
Boozer about 12 mil per

I would love to add rudy gay, he would be a perfect fit with Rondo

I was assuming Amare, Johnson and Boozer were all gonna be max contract guys.  Maybe not boozer but at least amare and Johnson
CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

Or we could try to sign a bigger name and fill in the rest with minimum type guys?  You would think that Joe Johnson wouldn't warrent a max deal after his playoff exit.  But of course, that likely will be wrong.

And then the next year, perhaps we will have more money after KG expires?

But in the end, it does look like we aree screwed should PP walk.

We could.  And I would strongly consider giving up my season tickets for next year.  They would have two starters making the league minimum.  That is not good basketball.

Yea someone will overpay for them, I should have said this is what they should make. There will be good players to be had if PP and Ray leave, but with Doc returning now I don't think there will be any cap room.

I'd make a run at Rudy Gay for most of that money (11 or 12 mil).

I'd call Joe Johnson rather quickly and invite him home.

I'd consider giving Outlaw half of it.

I would try to get the best player for the future that I could, rather than spreading it around on a bunch of marginal role players, and add a piece next year with the MLE, draft well, etc., building on top of Rondo and Gay (or whomever).  We wouldn't be better next year than if we kept PP and Ray, but we'd probably be better the year after that (if no lockout) and would have some good juju going heading into the post-KG years.  A Rondo/TA/Gay/BBD/KG starting lineup wouldn't be bad to watch (the suspense waiting for that TA pass might make me crack, though), and would likely be a playoff team in the East.

But what about the year after?  If we go under the cap after KG's contract expires, then could we fill in another good player after that?

Besides, if PP does walk, what are our other options besides blowing it up completely?

It's looking ike it's more than 15 million if Sheed walks away...Coon says we can get to within 55k of the 16.6 million dollar max.

KG is on the books for two more years.  Also, Perkins is up next summer, so we would need to either resign him (with a raise), or fill that spot.  So we would not be looking at much, if any cap space next summer.

But you are right, if PP walks, blowing it up is probably the only choice.  But the point is, renouncing everyone, and using the little cap space they have to fill the roster is not a good way of rebuilding.

Now, if we could get a true franchise guy like Lebron or Wade, that would be one thing, but short of that (and that is VERY unlikely), the C's have much more flexibility by looking at sign and trades with Pierce and Allen (even if its just for trade exceptions), and then looking at having better cap space in a couple years.

One of -- Rudy Gay, David Lee or Carlos Boozer.

Possibly Amare but unlikely so.

The main three (Bosh, Bron, Wade) and JJ are likely out of reach. I can't see any of them deciding to join the Celtics with most of the team, especially Pierce and Ray, leaving the squad.
