Hoopsworld has it's salaries for the 2010-11 season updated and they have Marquis on there at a higher cap figure than he had last year. I know he signed the LLE and that it has a player option on it. Does that mean he opted in and is on the roster next year? Never heard about him opting in but his contract at just under 3 million would be a nice piece of change to add to a Sheed deal to help us get a larger salary coming back in return if it means greater talent. Anyone know? I remember Posey had the same contract as Marquise, the LLE, and he had to opt out to sign with New Orleans.

Strange, because they updated this page today but I think it's a mistake, we would know already if Marquis had re-signed with us and it's unlikely.

Agreed that I think we would hear about it, but we have no power in the decision for him to opt in or out if he has an option. If he has an option and does decide to opt-in then that means he is on our books whether we want him or not.

He has not picked up his option yet to my knowledge - they do get it wrong sometimes. Shamsports doesn't even show a number, just a cap hold.

None of the other salary sites have Daniels with a player option, and I don't remember any reports to that effect.  Hoopsworld is wrong on this stuff quite a bit (and is one of the least reliable NBA sites on the internet), so until we see confirmation somewhere, I wouldn't read too much into it.

Unless C's have a trade lined up to a team that will buy him out. If he's going to not pick up the option anyways, the C's say "hey - we want to trade you to Team X - they agreed to buy you out for 1.5 million, which we will send in cash, you help us make a deal and get a chance to look around and see what's there in FA. If nothing is there, you can come back here for vet min, which is roughly 1.5 less than you'd make anyways."

When Daniels was signed, I kind of assumed there is no way he'd ever take the option, but now seems more likely.

UPDATE: OK - I guess there was never an option...

My recollection was he signed for one year with player option, but I can't google any evidence of this. Sigh. I thought LLE had to be for two years though... but I was wrong...

Quote
BI-ANNUAL EXCEPTION -- This exception was previously named the "$1 Million exception" (perhaps "misnamed" is more appropriate, since it was only valued at $1 million in 1998-99). It may be used to sign any free agent to a contract starting at the following amounts:
2008-09    $1.91 million
2009-10    $1.99 million

This exception may not be used two years in a row (and if the $1 Million exception was used in 2004-05, the Bi-Annual exception may not be used in 2005-06). It may be split and given to more than one player, and can be used to sign players for up to two years, with raises limited to 8%. Also see question number 20 for more information on the availability and use of this exception.

I think it's still up in the air about Quis being on the squad next season, but if people are just getting excited for the fact that we'll have $3M to include in a deal I don't see the difference between that and him coming off the books entirely.

From a basketball perspective he seemed disinterested when he was on the court and I feel he lacks energy.

Isn't it a team option?

Daniels signed a one-year contract for the LLE ($2 mil) on Sept 1, 2009:

http://www.prosportstransactions.com/basketball/Search/SearchResults.php?Player=Marquis+Daniels&Team=Celtics&BeginDate=&EndDate=&PlayerMovementChkBx=yes&submit=Search

That's a great site that I can never remember the URL to or find via google!

A google search for "NBA transactions database" will turn it up.

And, yeah, the people behind it deserve sainthood or a medal. It's an awesome resource.

I tried to build something like this for all Danny's moves a few years back when we were arguing about if his biggest mistake was getting rid of Antoine or bringing him back to show their was logic in the moves. Let's just say Google Docs wasn't up to it.

I'd love to see someone build a web 2.0 app that visualized what happened to every asset you had. Example Bird Rights to FA X became new contract, 2001 draft pick became 1st draft pick overall, traded to DEN became 2005 pick and player X, etc.

And TP for link.
