I see a lot of different senerios out there but has anyone thought of Rudy Gay?  He is a Restricted free agent I beleive and i think he is a guy who can help us win now, but also be a great piece for the future.  There is prob. a reason this is not possible but I dont know what it is ?

We don't have the money.  We're already over the cap.

Only if Memphis is willing to a sign and trade where we give them Sheed's soon to be retired contract or a sign and Trade with Ray.

We can't offer him a contract straight up.

Would we also be giving Ray a cyanide pill for his flight to Memphis?

If we did a sign and trade with Sheeds contract, would we be able to get Sheed back if he decided to change his mind and come out of retirement around February?

Haha, ok fine how about as part of 3 way trade in which Ray goes to a contender, we get Gay and someone else gives up a 1st to the Grizz?

It would have to be a sign and trade. And unless they really want perk or bbd, i don't see it happening.

Also i don't see why memphis would give up rudy gay for expirings.

A. They can get better offers.

B. They could just let him go for free.

C. A and B are reason enough, but i felt like i needed a third reason.

Much better. Dallas maybe?

It is not possible.
Anything is possible!

If Ray is leaving we can give him to another team and Memphis can pick up a first in the process.

If Memphis decides they are going to let Gay walk for a good offer why not pick up a 1st in the process?

The Dallas idea works:
To Dallas: Ray
To Boston: Gay
To Memphis: Dampier's non guaranteed + a 1st (hopefully from Dallas not us)
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

The only scenarios we could get him are either through a sign and trade (unlikely), or if Pierce opts out, and Sheed retires, giving the C's some cap room.  But even then, it would leave us with very little room to fill in the rest of the roster.

Rudy Gay is a pipe dream I think, but Danny was interested in him just one summer ago.  I read in ESPN the magazine's feature about Rondo that Danny attempted to swap Ray and Rondo for Gay and Conley.  So who knows, maybe he can swing something, however unlikely.

I've made my man crush on Rudy Gay clear in the past:

Gay is a great talent and much more than just and athlete who can fly.

He holds a career FG% of .454.  Just for some reference, Ray Allen holds a career FG% of .450.  And we're not talking about a small sample size either, we're talking about him going 2118-4665 over a 4 year span.  This is a guy who is taking quality shots and making a them at a good clip.

He also shot .346% on 3 pointers for his career (going 337-974 over his four years, including his rookie year in which he went 52-143 for a .364 3PT%)  Just as a comparison, Paul Pierce has a career .369 3PT%.

This guy is an all around good player and at 6'8 and 230 pounds he could be a monster on a championship caliber team.  Get him serious about defense and he's the best case scenario for a guy who could try to slow down someone like Lebron James.

I'd love to have him...but it's not gonna happen.

We'd have to give up rondo to get gay. and that just wont happen.
