REPORT: CELTS HAVE COMPETITION FOR MILLER
By: Rob Bradford

According to Sam Amick of AOL Fanhouse the Houston Rockets will make a play for free agent center Brad Miller, who is reportedly the target of the Celtics. Amick writes on his Twitter account: "As expected, the Houston Rockets will pursue center Brad Miller after he becomes a free agent on Thursday, a source tells FanHouse."

Unfortunately this is going to make Brad Miller more expensive, but nobody was expecting us to be the only team looking at Miller.

It's looking less and less likely that he'll settle for a minimum contract. Let the bidding war begin.

I thought he looked pretty washed up last year, but 3 of the better GM's in the league are looking into him...

I don't think he'll go to Orlando unless they overpay. Between Dwight, Gortat and Bass (Is he FA?) there isn't any room for him.

I'd be surprised if Orlando spent much money on the center position. They are already stacked there in talent and salary.

I think the most attractive team for an older center will be:

1. team Lebron
2. Boston
3. Dallas
4. Chicago
5. Oklahoma - (if they want to upgrade)
6. Phoenix

these teams have a positional need (minutes), money (up to MLE), and a great shot at winning a lot of games and playoff series.

You can add Houston if Yao is cooked.

Orlando must be exploring trades for Gortat, otherwise it would make zero sense for them to even be thinking about Brad Miller.

Why do the magic want another backup center? They already have Gortat who could be a starter, why is this a priority for them?

Gortat has been rumored, along with Carter and Pietrus, to be available.

The magic have NO interest in Miller at all, just posturing to make the Celtics overpay...
2025 Fantasy Draft Philadelphia 76ers:
PG: Rajon Rondo '11-'12
SG: James Harden '18-'19
SF: Andrei Kirilenko '05-'06
PF: Anthony Davis '17-'18
C: Amare Stoudemire '04-'05
Bench: Microwave Russell Westbrook '16-'17

I guess because Orlando has no business paying a backup center 7 million per year in a small market when they already have the best center in the NBA playing tons of minutes.

Orlando got greedy when they signed Gortat and Bass. Those were some expensive splinters they earned on the bench.

My take is that they matched Gortat's offer sheet with the idea  that he would ultimately be traded.  They didn't want to lose him (to Dallas?) for nothing.

Sheed's salary would make a nice match for Gortat's I believe.  of course no way Orl would send him here (primary rival for ECF at the moment) for just expiring salary.
