No one seems to be talking about Dirk.  I am curious whether or not we can work something out to get this guy and pair him with Pierce and KG.  We need someone who can generate offense and he is at a stage in his career where he should want a championship.  Also, put him in our system and maybe he can learn a shred of defense, which can help us deal with some major issues with length.  I have no idea what he is making, but can a Ray Allen, Sheed and Perk or Big Baby for Dirk sign and trade work?

i really don't see Dirk leavin the Mavs, and i really hope he doesn't. the reason he's opting out is because he can get a new contract worth the max from Dallas with a no trade clause. also,
Cuban is gonna do all he can with the DUST chip to get Dirk the help he needs, if it's Lebron or Joe Johnson, etc.

Why would Cuban do that?

The only reason Cuban would do that is if Dirk no longer wants to be in Dallas.  Since I am not claiming to have much information about Dirk's wants, I was wondering if he feels that he cannot win there and would want to leave.  I would think, in that situation, that Dallas can get back some space and a young defensive player that can help to change their culture a bit and perhaps open up some space for Melo next year.

Cuban is a pompous idiot...But a smart businessman.

Dirk is Dallas' brand.  The stands are full.  The team is good and profitable.

Dirk will retire in Dallas.

Seriously guys... We arent getting Dirk. We arent getting Bosh. We arent getting Amare. We arent getting Lebron. We arent getting any of the big name free agents. We dont have the cap, we dont have the players to trade. This is just getting annoying now.

not necessarily. Although unlikely, Pierce could opt out and we could renounce all our FA's, including, Ray, leaving us under the salary cap after Sheed retires, which would mean we could go after someone like Dirk.

Then we would have a line up of:

PG: Rondo
SG: Big Baby
SF: Dirk
PF: KG
C: a hurt Perkins

with Bradley and the white guy on the bench with 8 vet min players...Why would we do that?

And once all the players that are attractive to play with (except for Rondo and the guy that plays the same position, KG), why would Dirk choose to come to Boston?

I'm not saying he would, be we could be able to offer someone a max FA deal if we want to, even Lebron. As I said, it's unlikely, but it's not impossible. In some ways it could make sense. Who can we get in 2 years when all our big contracts come off the books if Durant and Melo sign extensions?

There are other ways to use cap space at that point.

There is no point in just getting rid of Pierce and Ray for nothing on the off chance that Lebron, Wade or Bosh might sign.

such as? I'm not saying get rid of Pierce and Ray on the off chance Lebron may come. You only do this if you know that Lebron or DWade will come, which again, as I said, is unlikely. The problem is though, what do we do in 2 years with our cap space?

Trade for a contract to get a high draft pick.

Sign a FA.

Trade for a good player from a team looking to dump salary.
