When will we know if Pierce is going to opt out of his contract? And if someone can please tell me what are salary is with him on the books before and if he were to opt out. I just want to know if we can offer a max free agent a contract. Of course that is my dream. For what I would do if I were ainge is say to Pierce and Ray ray. "Listen you guys are towards the end of your road and you have all the money in the world. Now if you truely feel you need this money fine, We will make one more run at it with you guys. But PAUL if you feel we can win with one of these free agents then I ask you to take less money and let us get one of these guys and win maybe 2-3 more rings. And if they dont sign then I give you guys all the money you need anyway. Its a win-win." Hopefully Pierce and allen choose to see what Ainge can do with the money and if he can come through then fine we sign or extenions and go on with it.

Well, we should know about Pierce's choice within the week. Now, hypothetically we could get a FA worth some money, maybe not a max free agent like LeBron or Wade but someone.

We could make a wink wink deal with Pierce and Ray, sign them to mininum contracts then sign a free agent with the promise to compensate Ray and Pierce next season.

Then of course, David Stern would try to make sure we never win another game ever.

I kind of hope we could do that, I'm not 100 percent on the cap numbers or anything, but at least in theory it seems possible. Practice, probably not so much though.

Well I am wondering if there is a deadline for Pierce to opt out? It would have to be before the 1st correct? If that happens I will be excited to see what Danny can do with some loose change!

I think the deadline is the 30th. So we should know in two more days.

I think it's very unlikely that Pierce opts out.

I just want to be excited for this team like I was in 08. I feel like if we go with the same core. We just don't stand a chance. We need a go to guy down the stretch of games and Pierce showed that he isn't that guy anymore.

I'd Rather have him opt out and throw our hats in the middle and say look we were 4 points away. Closer then you will be with the knicks bulls or miami.. If we had you, we would be champs, With you we will be champs. COME ON LEBRON!

Except Lebron would say "the team that was 4 points away had Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Tony Allen, Rasheed Wallace, and Nate Robinson...and you just let all those walk to make me an offer.  No thanks."

No LeBron they come back if you sign! That would be the whole wink wink thing with Pierce. Tell Pierce give us the space to try and get one of these guys. If we cant then fine we give you your 3 years whatever you want. Same with Ray buuuutt if we do Get lebron you sign for less because I am giving you rings. YA SEE!

It doesn't work that way unfortunately.  The C's would have to renounce everyone to have anywhere near max cap room (they wouldn't quite get max room, just about $15.5 million I believe).  By renouncing the rights to the free agents, the C's also give up the Bird rights.  That means, the only way they can resign guys like Pierce and Allen would be if they were willing to resign for the league minimum (the C's would not even have the MLE)...and I highly doubt they are willing to give up that much money.

I just want to be excited for this team like I was in 08.

I think we all do, but a feeling like that is a once in a lifetime experience. Excitement and joy at that level rarely happens twice...it was the equivalent of taking a video game trade and making it reality.

Yeah let's get excited for a lot of losing.  But it will be exciting...  Pierce is fine we lost because of horrible officiating.
