Shaq is very high on my wish list. The Celtics need some beef while Perkins is out. Its just going to be a matter of how to use the MLE.... Center or Wing?

Center is a much bigger need.
Look at it this way: with Perk out with surgery, the Cs currently don't have a starting Center.  The Cs at least have a starting wing.
Celtics fan for life.

Shaq might be nice off the bench but he's way too slow to start.

i don't like the thought of adding shaq. we need young talent and i dont like the sound of having the oldest player in the league coming off our bench. if we want to remain contenders after the GPA (garnett, pierce, allen) era we need to start adding young talent to the roster especially bigs that can go under our hall of famers wing and develop nicely. i like the sound of hayward but the cost might be too much

no matter how much you like to rebuild, with KGs contract it's almost impossible. and there's really no upside player we can sign for the MLE or less. we have 5 guys on contract so we dont have much trade options.

from these we have about 2 options:

1)tank the season and play for the lottery
2)plug some holes and try to give it one more run with what we have.

He's a possibility if the following three things are true:

1. His contract doesn't stop us from getting something else with MLE. So if Danny is going to pickup some talent by trading Sheed and others, and not spend the MLE, then you could use some MLE on Shaq.

2. He's willing to take a two year deal or less. No tying up cap after KG is gone.

3. He's willing to go to the bench if that works. It might make sense - he'd play against second tier centers, the first unit would remain consistent (once Perk is back) and the second unit gets a still good offensive threat.

However - you can't know #3 when signing Shaq, and that's a problem.

If you watched him play in the Cleveland series, you know he is terrible. The only reason he's been able to stick around this year is because he's huge. He can't leave the floor anymore and really isn't a very good rebounder. He also wouldn't take the role of a 4th or 5th big. He's also 39. The list goes on and on.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

they don't have a starting center OR a backup center right now with Perk out. They have two power forwards (KG and Baby), that's it. The need to add some quality big men is a top priority.

The talk is Shaq wants to go to Dallas (so they want him?)  The only other place I've heard him connected to is NJ (where he's from)which I could definitely see especially if they get one of the big free agents. I'd be very suprised if he ended up in Boston

Shaq is a great pick up at the right price. One of the most underrated and valuable things about him is his ability to get teams in the penalty. That is so huge!

I would love this idea ... and the opportunities would benefit both team and player. The reason a hand fits a certain type of glove, is because all the fingers are alike ... I don't think Shaq's been part of the right "hand" since LA, frankly ... but I believe he would flourish in Bean Town, and fit into Doc's schemes. But would he be willing to take the smaller minutes and salary?

at 39, regardless of where he goes, he better be ready to take smaller minutes and less salary. I don't even think he can physically handle more than 25 minutes a night.

As hpantazo said, wherever he goes, he'll have to settle for less ... so why not here? Great analogy, by the way, and I agree ... he hasn't found the fit again that he did in Los Angeles, and I think this might even be better for him than it was there ... especially at this stage in his career.

I agree on all accounts.

It would be really exciting to have Shaq come to town for a year. Really exciting.

Here's hoping we catch a vague rumour some time this week..

Shaq would really be huge, and though I've been pushing for a wing at the MLE, Shaq would make me second guess that call.  His ability to score in the post would reduce the need for a scoring wing off the bench.  We could probably just get by with a spot up shooter.
