Just the thought of him going to free agency (albeit restricted) right now, with all these teams having so much cap space makes me hyperventilate...

Yes, absolutely.

The C's would be totally screwed if they had to deal with the possibility of Rondo leaving in addition to that of Ray leaving, Paul opting out, Doc leaving, and so on.

Really, if Rondo hadn't been signed to that extension, the Celtics next season could have nobody returning aside from KG, Big Baby, and an injured Perk.  Now that's scary.
