Haywood for the MLE 3 years would be nice. Either O'Neal, Ilgauskas, even Ben Wallace or Brad Miller would be a good deal for the minimum. Maybe Brown or Milicic would be worth the LLE, but not more money.

One of the list would be ok. I'd rather give playing time to the rookie big man Danny will pick in the Regular Season. In Playoff Shaq would be nice, Haywood also. The rest, I don't know.

It will be easier after the draft. Come on, Danny, work some magic!

Ben Wallace was on the verge of retirement last summer.  Hard to believe he has enough left in the tank to play a full season + post-season again.  I think he only played in Detroit this last season because he wanted to finish his career there.
He actually had a pretty good year, but is again considering retirement. He said he felt he could still play if he was healthy but did not know if he could stay healthy/handle the recovery. I mentioned this in another thread, but if chandler doesnt get what he is looking for he would be an amazing mle signing.

Kwame brown and ratliff, two players with a lot of talent and the body, but really bad attitude....we had ratliff before, he was soo dumb, sitting on the bench brooding, the next year we got kg, if he only was "with it" he could have been there too. Shaq, nothing left but big hacking, oneal, if only we could sic him on artest somehow....! Or gasol, but somehow it would work against us. No to all. Haywood is the best choice, shown to have skills, the body, and actually keeps getting better when around the right team mates.

Getting rid of Ratliff in that deal (btw, he's still playing?!?!?) had nothing to do with his personality, and everything to do with his expiring contract

If JO was healthy, it would be a no brainer.  Since he rarely has been, although his body has held up better over the past two years, Ben Wallace is the better option.  Can still defend and rebound at a high level, just not for the same number of minutes as he did in his prime.  Plus, he has much better speed than Perk, which should allow us to beat a guy like Bynum down the floor routinely.  And hey, if we could get him, maybe he could convince Sheed to come back.  I had my doubts about him, as well as this entire team, but I also know that without him, we never would have made it to the Finals - and if we had won Game 4 against Orlando he probably doesn't tweak his back in Game 5 and we might have beaten LA.  Oh, and just for fun I though I'd show this clip I found:

Ben Wallace is a must on this team. He brings everything that we know this team lacks. Rebounding, toughness, defense... If Ben Wallace can give us almost 10 rebounds a night until Perk returns he’s worth whatever it takes.

He’s still has more boards to grab 8)

None of those guys will be available for the minimum.  Some will get close to $4M/per.

Centers just happen to cost a lot of money.

Celtics fan for life.

No worries.  We'll have Perk ready for the season . . .

  • Another undersized Celtic...
Brad Miller would be an solid replacement for Sheed. Same tough guy persona, really good perimeter shooting big man, can rebound, and can play the same lazy defense as Rasheed :)

Danny didn't do us any favors on this front tonight--so far at least.  Unless Danny can turn Sheed's retirement into a replacement, we're toast while we wait for Perk to come back.  I don't hold out much hope in the options that are available.

Danny didn't address either the big man or wing holes in the draft so now we're stuck with whatever's available via MLE, vet min or a prayer someone takes Sheed's retirement contract and hands over a decent big man in the process.

What did people want Ainge to do? Should he have reached for a center? When you draft for need it sets you back years. If Ainge felt strongly about drafting Avery Bradley, I am all for it. I would rather him be confident in the pick then reach! There are plenty of FA bigs that can fill in for Perk.
