Bad new all around for Celtics fans! There has been some buzz that maybe Melo was the apple of Danny's eye moving forward. If Danny can swing the 19th pick for a servicable rotation player I am all for it. We don't need a project.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
My guess is that he can't move up, so he'd rather get out...  I don't blame him.

I'm not certain I agree with this (see the "blow it up" thread) but IF the idea is to keep the current team together, it makes more sense to surround our key guys with veteran free agents (and there will be aplenty looking for a home) than to bring in some rookie that will sit...

Danny's going to squeeze one more year out of this window, hoping for a lockout to follow...

This draft is pretty deep so I don't like this move at all. All the younger players have declared so it's not like next year's draft will be any better. If Danny doesn't like any players at the 19th spot than I'd rather see him trade down.

And for the Melo extension, that really sucks

Looks also like Durant will sign a new contract with OKC this offseason.

Ainge is just looking to see what the going rate is for the #19 pick. That's just good business.  The reality is that every team is seeing what it takes to move up, and seeing what they could get by trading out...
Celtics fan for life.

I never liked Melo, so good, I hope the Nuggets keep him forever. Durant on the other hand would be awesome in celtics green. I wonder what Danny has in mind trading the #19 pick. We need to add a lot of guys to fill our roster and a decent draft pick would be ideal.

Yea, I expect him to. Judging from his comments, Durant is really happy in OKC - they have a nice up and coming squad and he's the man there.

Bummer.

In my fantasy league, I'm the Boston Celtics and I won the championship with a core of Rondo & Melo... Just sayin'...

I am not a Melo fan, so this is fine with me.  It is a bit interesting that Danny is willing to move out of the draft altogether though.  Although I suppose you could argue that a future draft pick could be a more valuable asset than a player that he does not have confidence in.

I do also take this as Danny looking to move either up or down in the draft as well.  I think right now, he is in no-mans land.  #19 seems to be right at the start of the bubble first rounder tier, and that is not a good place to be.

I agree with this. We have 6 players under contract, why would we trade for a future pick so that we have to fill up this roster with a vet min player?

I believe that Danny doesn't like the 19th spot but I think he would move back a few stops to pick up a later pick.

that would unfortunately erase any silver lining we had from our subpar regular season.

#19 and sheeds expiring ( buyout) to Miami for Beasley.  C's get a young player who has worn out his welcome in Miami , but still has a ton of potential. Learning the SF + PF positions from KG and PP would help him greatly.

Miami gets what they want , the ability to sign to 2 max level free agents.
