Ainge hasn't been enamored with anyone at the spot, according to the source, and is willing to get a return of a future pick.

Is this our first Ainge smokescreen? There's a couple every year.  ;D

Ainge is just seeing what the value of the pick is.  And this report contradicts other reports saying that the Cs are interested in Damion James.

It's too much to call it smokescreen -- it is just that teams are trying to figure out what the value of their picks are, what the costs are to move up, what they can get by moving down, which teams are trying to move which players, etc...

I hate this. If we move out of the first round that will be very disapointing. We have a good pick and we went far that worked out well. Now we have a chance to get a decent young guy. Unless he turns into something sweet I will not be very happy about this.

I read that Portland was trying to move up in the draft.
Sheed + #19 + future (protected) first to Portland for Greg Oden?

a pipe dream, but a dream nevertheless....

Huh?  Oden has injury problems, but he is vastly more valuable than anyone available at 19 in this draft.  And Portland has no need for the cap savings.

This is really stupid, Danny.  Instead of shopping the 19th pick, we should be shopping for the picks ahead of us.  Miami wants to sell, Chicago wants to sell - buy, buy, buy.

Paul George is what this team needs, but I think that, if he somehow slips, Minnesota has promised to take him at 16.  We need this guy.  Marc Spears wrote an article about him yesterday in which he referenced one eastern conference scout saying that he could be the best player in this draft five years from now (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=mc-georgedraft062210).  I'd just like to know who the scout is - does he work for Boston by any chance?  This guy can play the 2,3, and 4, in addition to his ability to pass, shoot and defend.  He can be the link (along with Rondo) from the present to the future, and also extend our current window.

I've been reading all the rumors about promises, and this draft makes no sense.  Milwaukee appears to want to take Larry Sanders at 15, but is willing to trade down (hello), and Houston is taking a big man http://www.thehoopsreport.com/article.aspx?id=514

After getting Maggette yesterday, along with CDR, maybe, just maybe, we could trade 19 for 15, then buy the picks belonging to Miami and Chicago, at 17 and 18, respectively, and take Willie Warren and Lance Stephenson.  Not that they fit together, but a ton of talent there.

Regardless, Toronto, New Orleans, and Memphis will take Paul George before our selection is made.  Darn, I really wanted this kid.

Oh, and the Bucks are also interested in Lance Stephenson http://www.jsonline.com/sports/bucks/96853899.html.

This can't be our own pick from this year, right?.  Where is it from?

If this is true, it's so mad that I foresee McHale has taken the control of the Celtics bench...

Maybe he is shopping it for money?
Between that, Sheeds money potentially coming off the books, as well as Rays, and PP maybe restructuring his contract,
does this make it possible for us to make a run at a big name free agent??

It's our pick.

Celtics won a bunch of tiebreakers (coin tosses) to beat out a few other teams that finished with the same record.

It does seem strange that a Finals runner-up is in the middle third of the draft, though.

If Ainge moves this pick for a future first rounder or sells the pick, I really don't like the message he will be sending out to the ticket buying public.

Essentially he's saying, hey, we may suck all year but as long as we get into the playoffs and make a run that's what matters and too freaking bad if our poor regular season nets us a good pick, we're going to trade it away because we need more old players to help us in the playoffs.

I think some of you are misreading this.  It is not saying that he is deadset on moving out of the draft, it just says that he does not like the value at 19, and he is looking to move, and that he is open to exchanging it for a future pick.  To me, this means that he is trying to move up or down, but if he can't, he will be open to the option of rolling it over for a pick in a future draft...but I think it would have to be the right team, and I don't think that is Plan A (or even plan G).
