Why not make a run at a guy like JJ Reddick? He would be fairly cheap, I think he could be had for the mid-level, maybe a bit more. If Sheed leaves, could use the money for him, just a thought.

He is not at the level to replace Ray.  He would make a nice bench addition.

Well, he was a very effective 3 point shooter last year, and started to come into his own in the playoffs. Just saying, Ainge was sold on the idea of Jiri Welsch being the next Pistol Pete, so who knows what he is thinking...I am always very encouraged about the draft, Danny always seems to draft well, so hopefully we can pull in a solid guy at #19

Let's see if Ray will sign a two-year deal before replacing him.

If he will, pursue Mike Miller, failing that Travis Outlaw or JJ Reddick, to play behind he and Pierce and to keep both of their minutes in check.  Keep those guys fresh for the playoffs.  There's 96 minutes per game at the 2/3 spots, Ray and PP shouldn't be combining for more than ~55 of them.  Mike Miller could give you 32 - 35 solid minutes a game, leaving 8-10 MPG for  someone like TA, or whoever we pick at #19.

Unfortunately I don't think he would be that cheap, since he is a RFA.  I think it would take something close to the full MLE to pry him away from Orlando.  

I also am not sure he is a starter in the NBA.  I think he is a very good role player, but not sure he is any more than that.  

So, if the C's could get him, great, but I wouldn't count on it right now.

I know it's easier said than done, because it has not worked for Rondo 100% so far, but is there any shot TA can just work on his jumper all summer and come back as an offensive threat?  He is a good guy to run alongside Rondo in the backcourt and they can still use Pierce as a spot up shooter.

I definitely would NOT want to see Tony Allen starting next to Rondo. He is a nice option as a shutdown defender, and slasher to the net, but that spells out bench player to me. I am a big fan of Mike Miller, and if Doc stays on board, I could see him wanting to come here and play for his former coach. Other guys I would love to see the Celts take a run at, most likely could not get them, but worth a shot, would be Josh Childress if he opts to come back to the NBA, and if he does, not sure if the Hawks still own his rights. Would love Al Harrington as a big scorer off the bench, maybe a low risk/high reward guy could be Josh Howard coming off an injury. Not mentioning any of these guys as starters, just players I think would fit the team. Although Childress was a solid player when he was on the Hawks and I could very well see him starting for us, but I don't see the Hawks giving him up.

Ray and JJ play too similar for JJ to just flat out replace him. Teams gameplan to stop Ray. JJ would probably fold under those circumstances. He would be a nice addition for the bench though.

Get rid of Ray, he can stay only at vet min, otherwies show him the door.
We need a "Wade" type of a slasher, or a guy that can run so that Rondo has someone that can keep up with him.

I like Reddick, I think he’s still learning and coming into his own. He was also one of the few guys on the Magic to really step up in that series. Problem is he’s restricted and the Celtics would have to overpay to get him.

agreed. There really is noone that’s better for that money, and we couldn’t sign them anyways because of cap rules.

Ray is worth 8 a year.

I hate to say this but, let Ray go and sign Mike Miller.  Miller is 30, is 6'8", plays either SG or SF.  Shoots close to 50% overall and last year shot 48% for 3s.  Also, over the past 3 years he has averaged 6.5 rebounds.  He is no worse than Ray on defense....at least the way Ray played during the regular season.  I like Ray very much, but he is too inconsistent except from the foul line.  Also, Miller shot 82% from the foul line last year...not great but good.
