This is the same guy who called out Tim Danaughy before he got jailed from fixing NBA Games and betting for the Mafia.

It does appear that he was just going in to say goodbye. I think the Herald has the story.

I hope he retires

I doubt he will leave $13 million on the table. Plus, if he retires, his salary still counts toward the Celts' cap.

Are you positive about this? I don't believe that's accurate.

I believe that unless he is unable to play due to injury, his salary still counts toward the cap, but I will leave it to the cap experts out there to let us know for sure.

This is the most ridiculous part of the CBA. Why on earth would his salary count if he's retired? It's not like we'd be paying him. Never understood this at all.

I could be wrong and hope I am. This is what Mark Spears wrote on Yahoo Sports and it is now on the front page of Celtics Blog:
"If Rasheed Wallace(notes) retires, his $6.3 million salary would be wiped off the team payroll next season and aid hopes of re-signing Allen."

I doubt that's true.  Pretty sure if he retires his money comes off the books.  People are confusing a willing retirement with a situation where a team is trying to force a retirement.  If Sheed wants out, he's breaking his contract and it's no longer valid.  I hope that happens.

Could it be used in hopes of signing someone who can shoot?

Sorry, guess I'm still bitter.

So can he retire and then we re-sign him again after the trade deadline? It's not like he's going to go all out in the regular season anyway. I don't blame Sheed for wanting to retire. I'm sick of the league myself. But maybe some time away could change his mind. He's been an important contributor to this playoff run. And it'd be nice if he could do it again.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

Spears will have it right.

Okay, that's good. We'd have the money.

Still not convinced we should give it to Ray Allen.

I'd like to see him leave.  I'd like to see us clean our bench of scrubs in general.  No Sheed, No Baby and No Nate-Rob.   Fun characters... they have moments... but they suck.

Actually can someone do some research and clarify if a retirement takes a player's money off the cap?  If so... I don't see why the Celtics couldn't tell Sheed to hold off on his retirement and use him in a trade as almost as an instant expiring contract...

sheed apparently went to say no bad feelings and wish them goodbye. considering all the problems he's had with refs, that's a really classy move. i had mixed feelings about sheed before the postseason, but man, he has been a joy the past 2 months. if he is indeed retiring, he went out swinging - considering his health, game 7 was as gutty as you can get.
