Once again, you've failed to see my point.  I'm not asking those players to "make an impact."  I'm wanting them to BE DEVELOPED.  Sometimes you miss (as you've pointed out) and sometimes you hit.  But we need to start scouring for players to be developed WHILE we still try to contend.  It's not impossible.

Afterall, what kind of impact did Daniels make this year?  None.  So why not have a young guy on the team that could be developed who comes CHEAP rather than paying for guys who do relatively nothing?

Scal offers us no future, would require more in salary, and won't sniff playoff minutes.  We are at a critical juncture in that we need to start finding players - who knows, maybe the next Bruce Bowen or Adrian Griffin are waiting to be found...  All they need is a roster spot, teaching and patience.

Because the Celtics are not in position to grab a bunch of young guys.  They are in position to grab one.

If the Celtics are not blowing up the team, then they need to have a roster about winning.  Not bloated with projects, again.  (POB, Pruitt, Hudson, Walker and JR all taking up valuable roster spots and providing absolutely nothing.  Daniels was at least useful before he got injured)

Scali is a proven NBA player.  He has a role with the Celtics.  He is the 13th man.  He is capable of stepping on the court for small periods and provide strong team defense.

No, he will never be a star.  He will never be a starter.  Heck, he will never be a top rotational player off the bench on a good team.

He is the guy you need to step in when players are hurt.  He is the guy that will help with little things.

And the rest of the end of the bench, I want to see guy with NBA experience.  Maybe they too are limited, but they know how to play at the level or have at least one aspect they are above average.

We already have a potential project in Gaffney. It does make you feel a little crazy when you look back at the scrubs we had on our bench a few years ago. Its a pretty good point that we were able to carry giddens, walker, pruit, POB etc and it didnt really hurt us. Whats the problem with scal?

Speaking of bench projects what's the latest on Walker, Hudson, Sweetney, Giddens and Erden? Anyone know?
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

Walker will probably get slightly above the minimum this offseason based on what he showed in second half with knicks. Although the knicks could very well be the best fit for his high flying style. Hudson has a chance to land on a team as a third string point guard. I would be surprised if Giddens was in the league next year. I think we could see sweetney on a sumer league roster, but not sure if ever managed to get into shape.

Uh, well...after five years I've come to the conclusion that he sucks... :)

Well I did some research for my own amusement and it turns out Sweetney is trying out for the korean basketball league. http://www.kbl.or.kr/tryout.asp there is a list of some players trying out for the league. A few interesting names on there.

Thanks and TP. I thought Sweetney went to the China or maybe I'm confusing him with Marbs. I wonder if he didn't make it in the Chinese league or if he just needs a change of scenery.

Said one opposing coach, “He is what he is, but he moves his feet and he stays in front of guys so they have to shoot over him. That sounds so simple, but I’ve been trying all year to get my clowns to do that.”

LOL. Too funny TP. Pop? or Sloan? Has to be one of those two. Or maybe Stan Van.

D'antonio definitely coaches some clowns, did he say it?

LOL could be. But somehow D'antoni, the Knicks and anything related to fundamental defense don't seem to go together.

I wouldn't mind him back at the minimum, the only problem is that this team needs 5s more than 4s.

Unfortunately for Scal, our minimum money would likely best be spent on some 7-footers.

Perk's injury puts Scal in a precarious position...  I now find it doubtful he'll come back.  We need a true big man...

Scal for the minimum as the 13th man? Of course.
