Why Can't KG Rebound Anymore?

Wallace had 10 rebounds, so did Pierce.  Glen Davis had 9 rebounds in limited minutes.  KG is the tallest of those guys, yet he only had 3 rebounds and let Gasol get 18.  I don't get it.  I realize he's not as quick, but neither is Wallace and he rebounded well.  And how does the much smaller Davis, Pierce and even Rondo outrebound KG.  He's 7'1" tall for crying out loud!

I'm at a loss for words.

Not when the Lakers are just as long, if not longer than KG and they can jump and KG can't. Plus he never learned to box out, he used to just jump higher than everyone.

Because he contests every shot.  The Lakers were shooting 28% for a reason.  When KG is running at the shooters he's usually not in great rebounding position.  You can't blame this on KGs rebounding.  As much as I hate to say it, the Lakers hit the clutch shots and the Celtics missed them.  Nothing more.  

The Cs fought hard and gave it all they had and to suggest they didn't takes away from a great season that we should all cherish because it's probably not going to be this exciting for a long time.

He's athletic enough, but his motor isn't nearly what it used to be.  He just doesn't have the energy to do everything he used to do.  And like a previous poster said, he has never really been a box out and control an area type of rebounder.  Ray's lack of shooting accuracy and KG's rebounding are simply age catching up to them.

Mike Gorman made a statement yesterday that Doc said to him,"with KG another season removed from surgery will help his step,bounce,rebounding,etc...i beleive if they keep the same core players and strengthen the bench we will be there at the end in the finals 2011,and we will see a better rebounding KG.

Kg is used to getting rebounds on athleticism. He has never boxed out particularly well but just had the length and the hops to go out and get it. His ups are fading so he is not able to rebound the way he used to. Hopefully in the offseason he looks at tap and realizes he needs to box out.

I wish I believed Mike Gorman, but I don't think this will be the case.  He is healthy now, and next year he will be a year older.

I think you can.  We knew going into this series how important the battle on the glass was going to be.  We lost it and we lost the series.  That was the #1 thing we needed to get done this series and we just didn't do it.

The loss of explosiveness combined with the lack of a wide frame hurts his rebounding.



The one handed grabs also does not help.  When he had more height on his jump, it would work because there were not as many hands up there.  Now, it is at a level where there is more hands punching at it.

I think this is possible... Rondo is a year better, KG a year healthier... same formula as this year... just no Thibs

All series the C's refused to box out the Lakers. I understand Gasol and Bynum are tall and tough to rebound over, the point is that they should never have the kind of positioning they consistently had all series. It's one thing to rebound over a 7 footer, it's another to try and rebound over a 7 footer 2 feet from the basket.

KG never went to get the ball... he just tapped it. Reach for it. Never grabbed. Yeah gasol and bynum are big, but KG with inside position should be able to rebound. Gasol wasn't exaclty jumping over KG, he had better position.

I wonder if it would have mattered had we played Baby just a few more minutes with Sheed.  Those two were at least rebounding and would have given us a few more possessions.  I don't know anymore.
