Why Should We Re-sign Ray?

Pierce and KG have aged into great number 2 options.

I think they're both third options to be honest.

Garnett is still good enough to be a second option but he isn't aggressive enough. So ideally a third or fourth option.

Yep.  KG seems to be happy being far down on the option list.  It would be great to have a young 20pt scorer in his prime.  It's funny- Ray for Monta Ellis seemed like a reasonable option for a time, then after the trading deadline passed I was thrilled that it didn't happen.  Now it seems like a good option again.  
It's nice to have balance like the current Celts team has, but when the offense stagnates, it's obvious that we lack a true number one option.

Why do we keep Ray Allen? Well give me a better alternative. There is none. If we lose him then we need to replace his position with either TA or someone at the MLE.

I don't want TA starting for us his inability to finish and his being prone to turnovers makes him a bench player.

If we use the MLE to sign a 2, to replace him then, we can't use the MLE to sign someone that will make our bench better.

Maybe he didn't have the greatest series but he's a heck of a lot better than anyone we could get to replace him if we didn't resign him.

Kinda where I'm at.  Again, Mike Miller as a possibility at the MLE, but is he really BETTER than Ray Allen?  Iravis Outlaw?  JJ Reddick?  

But, those are all guys that I think can make Ray Allen better, just by letting Ray keep his minutes down, take a few games off, save his legs for when it counts.

Would love to see a real sixth man again, basically a sixth starter who would be able to give us 30-35 solid minutes a night and keep our "stars" fresh.

Not sure we'd be able to get much in a S&T for Ray, certainly not getting a player that's a #1-scoring option-type.

One thing I *do* know now; no way in hell Ray Allen ought to get a three-year contract.  I don't care about the dollars too much, but no way I want him on the books past 2012.

in this series, it was LA's defence that made ray miss all the shots. Kobe playing so far off of rondo made it very hard for ray to find space. I still like allen.

The problem is the wing off the bench has no offense. Doc cannot get the rest he needed to for Ray or Pierce.

The C's need a big man who can score in the post.

The C's need a an athletic wing that's a threat to score.

Depending on who those guys are you could reconfigure the roster a couple of ways.

I dunno how you get him, but I like the 76ers Iggy - he's about to become redundant and might be someone they would move for 50 cents on the dollar. He'd be a great starting SF next to Ray and Rondo, and would let Pierce do his thing off the bench.

I'd love to pick up old friend Al Jefferson and start him at Center. He'd be a great trailer on the break. Kaman is another guy who'd be a nice fit.

My question is how you actually achieve these kinds of moves - I dunno see a way to get any players of significance this year. Unless we start moving KG, Ray, or Pierce. Alternatively Danny could decide that Rondo is not a guy who can be the best player on a championship team (and let's face it - his flaws were exposed this series and he did not play that well last two games.) I doubt that happens... if for no other reason than Rondo is probably the most affordable superstar in the league at this point.

I agree that the Kaman and Iggy would be great for this team but it's just not happening.

I think we could fill out those two needs via the draft. If we could buy a 1st rounder I would like to get Avery Bradley/Xavier Henry for the wing position and Sanders/Whiteside/Orton to fill in the post player position.

If we don't buy a pick we fill one of the needs via the draft and the other with the MLE.

I would give Reddick the full MLE to split time with Ray. Who is a better mentor for Reddick than that?

I was disappointed that Ray didn't come up huge in game 7, I expected him to. But he played great D on Kobe and used all his energy to try to stop Kobe. And I wouldn't be surprised to learn during the summer that he was hurt, yeah. But I wouldn't put this loss solely on his shoulders, it's not fair.

Anyway, we need Ray back. He is too valuable for us with his spacing, his D is good and he is a leader. Plus, we can't replace him with our financial situation and he wants to come back so I feel like there is no other choice for both parties, especially if he is willing to take a paycut (I think he is).

I'm interested to see if we can get a good wing/guard player with the 19th pick, who could contribute right away. It's time to think about Ray's replacement and maybe to limit his minutes but he definitely has to come back in my opinion.

Celtics should re-sign Ray Allen because he'll be a heckuva lot cheaper than $20 million.

If he's anywhere near $8 million, it's a no brainer, I'm sure the Lakers would love to get him at $8 mil.
