First time poster but long time lurker. I became a fan of the Celtics in 1984 at 10 years old. We didn't have live TV back then, we watched the 84, 85 and 86 NBA finals (and Bird, McHale, Chief, Greg Kite!) on bootleg betamax tapes that were at least 10 days delayed. Jojo White, Cowens I got to know reading an article from a battered 70s magazine (sports illustrated?) that was somehow always in our bathroom magazine rack. Sharman, Cousy, Russell I got to read about in a 1960s edition of Colliers Encyclopedia which was the most important source of information for most of us growing up in a third world country. Stumbled into CelticsBlog just before the start of 2008 season, and for the longest time, I was just content in reading insightful (and not so insightful) posts from you fine Celtics Fans, and repeating your opinions to my friends so I could pretend to be an insightful celtics fan myself.
The end of our rollercoaster season with the loss hurt like hell. Spent lots of time today comforting depressed Celtics Fans and avoiding smug LA Fans who were formerly smug Cavs Fans. I am so depressed right now, but being with all of you seems to take some of the depression away. And after seeing Sheed, KG, Paul, Rondo, Big Baby, Ray play their hearts out today, I don't think I could have asked for anything more. I'm so proud to be Celtics fan right now, and maybe Celtic Pride is what pushed me to my first ever post (or I just need a hug). Some people have it easy, just (a) pick the strongest team (b)celebrate trophy in June (c) repeat. I wish I were that kind of person, but, I guess this is the burden of being a diehard fan, you take the victories, the tradition, the losses, the bad draft picks, the injuries, the depression that comes with losing -- everything. But the flipside of it is, someday, the shots will fall, the defense will hold, and the Celtics will win again (soon, hopefully)and the high will more than make up for what we are feeling now, a high that no bandwagon fan will ever know.
And we will always have 2008.
