There needs to be a big offensive addition.
The defense is title level.
The offense is not.
What really scares me is the drop off we saw with the older players. The NBA is a league where once the drop starts, it goes down really fast.
What really scares me is that we can't buy a rebound. I think it's a combination of our age and sophisticated defensive schemes.
With so many adjustments on defense, we end up out of position so much (and that was evident in yesterday's game) that the opposition will often not be boxed out.
This was less of a problem in 2008, because pre-injury Garnett and a younger Pierce were able to clean up a lot of this stuff, and we didn't neccesarily notice any rebounding problems.
However, Garnett no longer has enough gas to play like his 2008 self for 38-40 minutes a night, even if it's only in the playoffs. I also fear that Perkins might never be the same after this knee injury.
So yes, we have another run left in us, because we're an old, grizzled, and gritty team. We also need improvements in the offseason: notably, a long, active body at the 5 who is able to start and get rebounds (heh, like any team in the NBA will pass on one of these). I think this will be the hardest need to address. Backup offensively-minded wing is still a need as well, but that might be easier to staff since there are some passable options in the FA pool.
All in all, the loss is disheartening, but I don't think the team should rush into decisions before taking a couple of weeks to reflect on the state of the team. I do feel that we have no better options on the market than keeping the two Allens and Robinson.
