bad move imo. We need to go with Sheed. Baby can't guard Gasol or Bynum, Lakers may get off to a quick lead.

I have confidence Doc knows what he is doing, even if I (or we) don't understand it.

Sheed told ESPN he is getting the start.....

Are you sure about this?

It makes no sense to start Davis when Bynum is in there....

I hope so. Maybe the plan is to run Bynum off the floor early.

No way does Davis start...makes no sense.

Great move. We dont need sheed picking up cheap fouls early. We need sheed in the 4th with no more than 3 fouls, plus he's going to be vital in the 4th with his shooting and his ability to space the court. Also, i dont think bynum plays that much tonight. He will give them that intial burst, but i dont see him being a major factor throughout the entire game.

Regardless, unless Ray, Paul and Rondo all blow up for ridiculous games, we're going to need pretty much a 3 man rotation of KG, Sheed, and Baby with little (if any) other time from any other big.  All three are going to have to play north of 30 minutes and KG may have to go 40.

So who starts is fairly unimportant.  At some time tonight all three are probably going to have guard Pau and all three are going to have to guard Bynum.

Maybe they are both starting. The Celtics just want to have 6 men on the floor to counter the 8 the Lakers will be playing with tonight.

Exactly.
We can't let Gasol get into a rhythm early in the game, so I'm hoping it's Sheed.

Maybe Sheed's back is more of a concern than originally thought, cuz if he's anywhere near 100% there's no way you go to Baby over him.

I wouldn't mind seeing Baby start.  The thing that worries me most is Sheed with early fouls and/or Sheed running out of gas.   Baby starting may be a gamble, but could force Bynum to run more early and could help establish a rebounding/energy presence.  Baby has come up strong in pressure situations before.  I just hope we can avoid early fouls.  If we need Scal or Shel for more than a few spot minutes, we are in trouble.

if Baby starts, Sheed off the bench can play the 4 or the 5.

If Sheed starts, Baby off the bench is mostly a 4.

Maybe docs thinking? Avoid shelden at all costs.

  • Thank you Eddie!
I think Doc's going for avoiding playing Williams and Scal at all costs.  Sheed would likely get 3 or 4 fouls in the 1st half if he starts.
