Any thoughts on who we might target post-Doc (I'm assuming he's going to retire after this series).

A stupid long-shot dream, but I wonder what Larry Bird would say if Danny Ainge offered him a chance to come home to the Green and lead the next generation of Celtics on the court.  Remember how good a coach he was before he went upstairs to the front office?

Also a shame we let Thibodeau go, if indeed Doc is not coming back.

I really think Doc is going to stay. They will accomodate anything he wants including missing some regular season games for important events he wants to be there for his kids.

When this era is over, i think Kevin McHale will be the next Celtics coach.

hopefully doc doesn't leave...i think people are finally realizing how good a coach he has been. but i suspect he will call it quits, win or lose, after this season. too many important family things going on for him, and i totally get that. if so, my guess is mchale comes home. if we go outside, maybe JVG?

  • Rondo = Good
I don't think Larry Bird even likes the Celtics more than the Pacers, nowadays.

McHale probably would be our best bet.

If we’re gonna be looking to bring in a young big man to fill in for Perkins at first, I want McHale here VERY BAD.

could do to Rondo’s growth as a player. Doc has had a big part in the evolution of Rondo as a leader on this team, i don’t know if McHale can have that same influence.

Van Gundy has been pushing for the job albeit secretly with his play by play analysis

Lawrence Frank would the be the guy who I would consider the frontrunner for the job.

Not wild about the man myself but I think Danny would appreciate his coaching resume and put him at the front of the queue.

Great details man (one of the best in the league) but I always wondered about the larger stuff (building a team identity and overall style of play -- "this is how we win") with Frank.

Big Red?
He means Dave Cowens.

I would have to say Jeff Van Gundy. They are already running a defensive scheme very similar to what he runs. He will be coming in with veterans he believes in and I think he really would love to coach this franchise now that it has returned to prominence.

I think he would slide in almost seamlessly.

I am sticking with my dark horse of Lawrence Frank.

I think the McHale/Ainge friendship is too strong to risk it, I think Van Gundy will not want to captain a possibly sinking ship, and I don't think they want to go with an inexperienced guy.  So they go with a guy who has had some success, but is kind of flying under the radar.
