THANK YOU fairweatherfan! TP for that. For stating perhpas more clearly than I did, that what I was referring to is our 1-7 and now 1-8 record during the "Boston three party" era of clsoing out playoff series on the road.
Guys, as my IQ is above 50, I have all the mental acuity, agility and capacity I need to comprehend the facts that we won a title in 2008 and have won some playoff series in 2009 and 2010 by winning deciding games that closed out the sries.
I understand this. As I've watched every game they've played the last 7 years, including every game of the 18 game losing streak, I do understand they have won some games.
What I am "talking about" is exactly what fairweatherfan stated.
1. We rarely(1-8 now over three years on road opportunities to close teams out) seem able to grab our sack and kick teams in the teeth when it would appear we should, on the road, with the chance to win a series and advance or win something as insignificant as an NBA championship, the thing these guys have all played their entire lives for the opportunity to do so. I just don't get it with how consistent we are at failing to win these deciding games on the road.
2. I know these are road games we're talking about so I could understand if we were like 3-5 or 4-4 or 5-3, etc. but 1-8? 1 and F/n 8?
We have an opp to close out Orlando, AT HOME, and we lose.
We have an opp to close out the lakers at home, and we lose game three.
And I don't think it's too much too much to ask to win three at home. Detroit did it. They won three straight at home to beat LA. The Chicago teams were notorious for winning series on the road and they won several of their titles, on the road...
This team, while great, just has always seemed to lack that "something" that makes them step up and really kick teams in the teeth when they are down. It's mental toughness and focus.
What is more frustrating then anything else, is they have all these chances to win these games and they don't close it out.
Not only do they not close it out, they throw up these completely lack luster effort games. If you've watched them long enough, you can tell when they are "into it" or not "into it". It's no so much that they lose these games it's how they lose them, with a lack luster effort performance. How does that even happen. Isnt' that what they play for, to win a championship? You;d think effort wouldn't be an issue in these close out types of games, even if they are on the road. But this team, they throw up ho-hum effort games at the most critical of times. And they do it consistently.
They do the exact opposite of what you'd expect. That is frustrating.
So for me, I've been dissappointed so many times by them when I'd think they would put up a diffeernt performance That I almost excpected a blow out last night. Because it wouldn't make sense for this team to have won last night.
Why would they want to win in game six, when they could make it harder on themselvss in game seven. Same principle applies to game four against Orlando and game three against LA.
and trust me Bahku, I am wound so tight right now, I could pop at any moment. I love this team and I generally am miserable for a full day whenever they lose, even during the regular season. I can't even watch the losses.
But after so many unpleasant supries from them, now I kind of like give myself a mental **** and take the ok, whatever, let's see what happens in game seven approach.
If I don't do that with this team? I'd freak out. I can't take it.
